I was going to ask you about that earlier as I couldn't understand why there was going to be issues with you wifes background.
We had WW3 up here with her dad, like yours my wife specialised in inheritance tax amongst other subjects and it took her over 5 years to get her dad to agree to anything but eventually got it all sorted.
There seems to be an issue as one gets older in trusting others, even those close to you.
As it stands he is 87 and currently being assessed in hospital if he can manage on his own which he cant but he will refuse any help, it is not dementia as he is still as sharp as a razor but losing the use of his hands and already in a wheelchair for walking. Fortunately despite years of him fighting his daughter helping him she managed to get everything tidied up legally and fingers crossed all should be ok.
