Re: Citizenship in Turkey
Well today was the day that we headed off to Mugla - I had an airport drop off at 4 pm so decided that we would go straight on to Mugla
All went well - stopped off at a nice cafe for breakfast then arrived in Mugla at 6 am !
Parked the car in a nice shady road and settled down for a 3 hour " kip "
I was abit apprehensive about submitting my paperwork without the certificate for Turkish speaking but the 4 people in the Nufus office were very nice ( makes a change as I usually get the "horrid " ones )-
I had my 3 identical folders as requested with all my birth certificate and various other papers that had been noterised in Bodrum and translated.
All that i had done wrong was i had filled out the form in English !!! - silly old me - so had to re do this in Turkish- they then asked for my residency permit and passport-
also my Turkish driving licence
After fiddling around on his computer for about 20 mins he then gave these back to me and said that they didnt want any more documents yet as they would have to check the various authorities as to how long i have spent in UK over the past 5 years !!
You cannot have citizinship if you have spent more then 6 months out of Turkey each visit - which i have not - this was perfectly clear on my passport with the visas etc.
so i have no worries on this score
so it ended up with me bringing my 3 folders back home and awaiting a phone call to go back again when the checks have been done !!
So today seemed abit of a wasted journey as this could have been done when i first went to Mugla in May for the application forms ! Why do these people seem to mess us around ?
Any way - i feel a little better now as we do seem to be getting somewhere - even though the chap said it is difficult to obtain citizinship in your own right- lets just wait and see and i will keep you posted as to the next step
