As Brenda and Peter says grills or shutters would be advisable. If you are going to rent it out probably the grills would be better as could you rely or expect renters to shutter up when they leave? Also if just a holiday home then maybe on a security patrolled complex would be better. And definately change the locks periodically. As for location it could happen anywhere. Have read somewhere that a ground floor property is more at risk and yet have heard things happen when on 1st 2nd floor.

Wherever you buy I hope you will be happy and crime free.
