Re: Take a 'Peek' inside the Akbuk Luxary Hotels

Anna, the Caprice Palace resort is more conservative then what you will find in Altinkum, men and women have separate beaches and facilities etc.

Al Qaeda is not a strict version of Islam; it's more an extremist organization who also happens to be Muslims, similar to other groups around the world who want something other then mainstream groups do.

Unfortunately the western media and governments like to fuse the two, because it suits them

pansiyon or otel in akbuk?

Hope this is the right place to ask,
Can anyone recommend and give contact details for an economical place to stay in Akbuk in late Oct (22 to 29) as we are going to take earlier advice about visiting "out of season" before making decision to purchase.
Thanks

Re: pansiyon or otel in akbuk?

Gill,

You have a couple of options, Gezmek has stayed in the Derby Hotel which is a 2-300yrd walk from centre of akbuk and pretty close to the beach. Telephone number is 0256 856 5800.

The only other one i know of is Ipekyolu but have not stayed in either so cannot comment.

Here is Gezmeks link Link to forum post

there are many posts on akbuk in the winter month in the Akbuk section, in brief its very quiet with maybe 3 or 4 resteraunts open all year but as its a "Real village" everything else carries on it does not seem like a ghost town which is how i found Altinkum (not Didim) in the winter as this is mainly a tourist location.

Hope this helps

Marc

Re: pansiyon or otel in akbuk?

I have stayed at Ipekyolu and would definitely not recommend it, moreso October can get chilly at night and the couple of rooms they have there are definitely not designed for Autumn or Winter use.

Merv!

Re: pansiyon or otel in akbuk?

Thanks Marc for pointing me to the posting by Gezmek with the hotel details.
Its definitely a "real place" that we are after, not a holiday place. Going to book flights and see for ourselves Akbuk in Oct.
However I think I'll have to improve drastically my Turkish. There used to be an evening class locally which I did for a couple of years but I've forgotten a lot (use it or lose it I suppose).

Thanks Merlin for advice re Ipekyolu pension-note taken!!

Re: Akbuk Hotels & places to stay

We spent three nights at the Derby last week, in one of the poolside rooms, which was spacious and clean. We thought it was an excellent location, the restuarant terrace had excellent views, and the staff there were very friendly. We also took a look at one of the "house" rooms which had a terrific view of the bay and looked comfy.

Re: Akbuk Hotels & places to stay

The Derby for around 6 to 10 quid a night depending on season and haggling power is a good value. Good views from the main building's balconys and a few minutes alk to most of interet in Akbuk. The owners are good people.

Re: Akbuk Hotels & places to stay

It seems conservative as they even have a double set of swimming pools - for women and men separately...
