Re: Does lemon work??

Hi Dawny,

Yes I think it does work. I normally rub the lemon all over me and it seems to stop me from getting bitten.

Hope this helps

Re: Does lemon work??

Ah Dawny it's almost that time of year again. There were lots of posts last year re advice on the what and what nots of these little blighters. For me I take a Antihistamine tablet (Cetrizine) two weeks before I go to Turkey, and whilst I am there. Always wear a good strong (at least 50% deet) spray on exposed skin areas. Around the apartment I have citronella oil lamps on the balcony, these do work for us. Every day, at some point give the bedrooms rooms a good spray and close the bedroom doors. I also carry an 'After Bite' Pen, it's now widely sold in most supermarkets, and if do happen to get bitten put this on as soon as noticed, the ammonia does help to kill the sting. If you do a search I'm sure there are many more tips too. Good Luck.

Re: Does lemon work??

Never heard of lemon working like that.better to put mozzy nets up, you can buy them in Migros and they are not too expensive if you dont want to install permenant ones, and of course the plug ins work well.

Think some people get mixed up with Lemon and Citronella because it smells of Lemon .in the Far East they swear by Citronella .....candles.... lotion......cream even in bath water .and dont get mozzies mixed up with sand flies which bite the devil out of your legs OUCH

Re: Does lemon work??

The Cetrizine tablets are useful to help reduce the effects of being bitten and reduce the itching.

Using an Avon skin so soft lotion and bath/shower gel helps a lot too. For some reason they don't go after you as much if your body has this skin so soft lotion on it. My sister took loads of it to South America to use when she went up the Amazon and said she was the only one that didn't get bitten, yet normally they make straight for her. They seem to like me too!!

Re: Does lemon work??

You can also buy off your local market a basil plant, they are 50 krus each. We found them very effective last year.
We hung them over the balcony in pots. Never got bitten. Hope this helps.

Friends swear by Vitamin B1 tablets with Thiamin, £2.99 for 100 at Holland and Barratt, 1 a day does the trick.

Re: Does lemon work??

..we have tried just about everything over the years ..and the only thing that does work for us ,is the (blue) skin so soft..also loads of marmite comes a close 2nd, bed time .we spray our room(with baygon) an hour before retiring (not everyones cup of tea)but it does keep the little buggers down when your trying to sleep....if you have any small children with nappies ..dispose of them straight away ..there a magnet for the mossies..
