wanted long term rental-akbuk central area

we are looking for somewhere on the flat area behind the main shopping street in akbuk--we need 3 bedrooms and would prefer a bit of garden area.

we liked the feel and people in akbuk. Fethiye would have been a little too far for my in laws to just 'nip' back from.- we intend to come to fethiye one day to see if it is the place for our retirement.

If I was married to a Turk and had a Turkish family, I would endeavour to improve my knowledge of the Turkish language Don't you speak Turkish at home?

we speak English at home to improve my wife and daughter's levels plus my wife likes watching tv and listening to the UK's TV/radio all the time.--My working day is totally in English because we use the 'communicative' teaching method that never mixes the languages.--i have enough people to talk to but lack the cultural exchange!--i liked akbuk because all the Brits i met were northerners and they are very friendly--we made a good Turkish friend as well so my wife wasnt left out!--my wife loves mingling with Brits too--she loves the sense of fun we have!

Re: wanted long term rental-akbuk central area

I agree it's difficult to get the balance of practice right! And Turks who speak English normally seize any opportunity to speak the language for that reason.
And yes - language is so much a cultural thing too. I'm sure that I was an Italian in another life - I look Italian, speak it well and feel so at home with Italians.
I think that language as you say, is as much about culture than as the mechanics of speaking it.

My mother is from the north of England so despite being born a bred in a real 'up itself' place called Bournemouth on the southcoast i feel happiest with friendly Northern folk!--Akbuk seems to be just right!

My wife and i met some lovely people on our exploratory weekend-both English and Turkish. A Turkish guy took us up to Altinkum yacht club and he showed us the other side of the area--peace and luxury
