Re: Kennel Cough .

Pet owners can get their dogs vaccinated against Kennel Cough ..I would strongly advise them to do so ...

Lets hope that young dogs and puppies off the street can also be vaccinated ,,,,Diane

Thanks for that, these are exactly the symptoms our dog has.
We have had her to the vet who suspected something in her nasal passages or a chest infection and gave us antibiotics that had no effect bot suggested a 180 X-Ray that may or may not show up the problem.
Back to a different Vet tomorrow armed with this diagnosis.

Re: Kennel Cough .

Also even if your dog has been vaccinated it can still get it, my vet explained it's a bit like a flu vaccine it can't cover all strains of flu and the same with kennel cough vaccine.

Re: Kennel Cough .

Do not bother taking your dog to the vet - just buy over the counter antibiotics here.

The drug used is Amoxicillin/clavulanic acid

The amoxicillin/clavulanic acid combination is also used in the treatment of, among other infections, dental disease and kennel cough; urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, respiratory tract infections etc. Trade names include Clavaseptin, Clavamox and Synulox.

The brand I buy from the chemist here is Croxilex-BID. You can buy it in 625mg x 10 tablets or 1000mg x 10 tablets (both sizes 10tl per pack)

Dog dosage: 11mg per kilo every 12 hours. E.G.

Small dog (10kg): 110mg twice a day
Medium dog (20kg): 220mg twice a day
Large dog (30kg): 330mg twice a day
X-Large dog (40kg): 440mg twice a day

Re: Kennel Cough .

Yes thats very true .... You can give Amoxicillin ... Once when I had a tooth abcess I took the dogs cos it was on a week end ... They are Identical ..I had a Corgi years ago the vet said also give Benolin to sooth the throat .. Lemon and Honey might work to ..

People think only dogs who have been in Kennels are affected ..Not true any dog can get it
at any time .....Diane

Re: Kennel Cough .

It is nasty and irritating too for them. As others have posted antibiotics definitely needed to cure it. Yes the virus is in the air, so also be careful around others when out and about walking your dogs. Often wondered why they do call it Kennel Cough when it can be contracted anywhere, anyone know why?
