Tour of Turkey Cycle Race

Having learnt that the race will come over the mountain road and down into Akbuk on friday 27th april, does anyone know what roads will be closed and when, as we need to get to the airport that day. The stage is Bodrum to Kusadasi so even if someone knows what time it leaves Bodrum that could be a help

There is an article on The Independent Website about Akbuk in Turkey website including a map about this race.

May be of some help to you.

Re: Tour of Turkey Cycle Race

We saw a stage of the race a couple of years ago past bafa lake and they do close the road for quite some time before and after they come through, so i would avoid travelling during this time.

Re: Tour of Turkey Cycle Race

They pass through Akbuk at around 2pm.
But Lord knows what time the police or jandarma will close/open the Bodrum road.

Re: Tour of Turkey Cycle Race

The race route is usually closed 2 hours before the first bikes/service crews are due to pass main locations on route. That includes the main dual carriageway between Bodrum & Milas. We so nearly got caught out last year when after visiting friends at Dort Tepe to then go to Milas market, the jandarma were not going to let us join the road again, bearing in mind we would have been going the same way as the race but well in front of them.So we had to say we were going to the airport & couldn't miss our flight!!.Reluctantly we were allowed through but told not to stop on route.
When we went up the hill on the Milas side of the airport the polis had already stopped all traffic coming down the hill.I.E the opposite way to the race route...why???? & causing a massive tailback.

Re: Tour of Turkey Cycle Race

Just watched them whizz through Akbuk They looked awfully hot after tackling that mountain!! lol

Lovely seeing all the Akbuk school kids watching with their flags flying.

It was also lovely to see the motorbikes waving and beeping at the kids along the way, which the kids loved.

Good thing is that the roads are now open, not 5 o'clock like the Jandarma had said previously......
