contents insurance

is it worthwhile getting contents insurance in turkey? i ask because i have been told that it is almost impossible to get a pay out for a claim as insurance companies in turkey will not pay out. find this a bit hard to believe but i trust the source of this information. could anyone recommend a good broker and give me an idea of the cost for two bed apartment. regards to all. ged

Sometimes wonder what world some people live in - of course they pay out on legitimate claims. Just had one for accidental damage to a kitchen unit, inspected and money paid into bank within a week.

Re: contents insurance

I think some people have had problems when claiming for theft especially large amounts of money (same as UK) However no problems claiming for damage etc. whatever company you use.

Re: contents insurance

I know lots of people who have successfully and legitimately claimed - and been paid.

Beware of policy cover levels - cash & jewlery in particular are often restricted to low levels.

Other than that - go ahead and insure!

Re: contents insurance

yes we had a similar problem Steve ,,when one of our ceilings colapsed due to a burst pipe, they only paid out a fraction of what it cost to fix the ceiling and repaint it .we also tried to claim for a king size bed and an expensive duvet.and cover(this was also due to the water damage,we had to throw them out and get new ones..also many insurance companies here will not cover laptops and flat screen tv,s..so we just cancelled our contents insurance with Axa,as i just was,nt worth the hassle of not getting paid out .my advice is get your policy translated into english ..also on my car insurance i asked for fully comprehensive cover ..later i found out i was only covered for 3rd party..when i went to renew it with a different company...

Re: contents insurance

A reputable insurance company should pay for your claim.
If you don`t have contents insurance and there is a deprem you will lose everything.

Re: contents insurance

If you take your insurance cover with your bank (as I did with garanti) -they will happily supply the policy and cover details in english.
essential for me as my turkish could not cope with all that detail.
