bought in Akbuk

Hi I am in the process of purchasing duplex in Acbuk which is now being built, should be ready April 2013, its in part exchange for the one i owned in didum, the builder is Zaza Cetin, seems a good guy, havent met anyone yet with a bad word to say about his deals? yet, We are so looking forward to moving away from didim.
When we went to view the site in Sept this year, just approaching the centre i was amazed at how clean and tidy the place was, and the views of the hillside and sea are fantastic, very good for your health, some have said it will be too quite and boring, I dont think so, there are some bars and restaurants isnt there? do they have any entertainment on ? Does anyone have different opinion, would like to know your views. thanks brenny

Hi brenny you seem quite happy with your deal. Do you want to tell the forum about the set up with a little more detail?

H Brenny

My only advice to you is do not pay over the money for the new duplex until you are getting tapu and hab cert into your hand, just pay a deposit and do not sign over the tapu to your present property until the new one is completely in the bag.

Your builder may be ok but unfortunately most of us who have lost money and property also thought that the sun shone out of our builders and at the time no one knew them well enough to realise that they couldn't be trusted.

I'm not trying to rain on your parade but just be very careful.

akbuk is great we love the place but akbuk is also scary with all the scams that have occurred ,like you have already been told don't hand over the money until you receive your documents

We live in Akbuk and love it here. Yes, it is quiet, but we like quiet. During the winter we have winter walks, and dancing lessons on a Monday, which are a real laugh, and you meet new people too. Life is what you make it here. Good luck with your purchase. Sue and Tony xx

Re: bought in Akbuk

Each to their own but after 10 years of living in Akbuk, for me the novelty of a quiet village has worn off and I yearn to be able to go round some decent shops, go for a decent meal, dress up some evenings, go to the cinema or go to the theatre. That is not to say I want to do that all the time but just to have the opportunity - not everyone can afford to own a car here in Akbuk and winter buses stop at about 6pm into Didim and even earlier coming back! Winter is bleak here, very cold and wet most of the time and the houses do not retain the heat for very long and it is difficult to keep warm. I wont say any more but most of the comments here are from 'newbies' who are still on the honeymoon period! Whatever you decide to do i wish you luck but maybe you should rent before you buy first during the winter period and see if it is your scene!

Re: bought in Akbuk

Hi sarahlou, thanks for that but having gone through a scam and rip off in turkey i'm more cautious now, no money (except small dep) has been handed over, only when i get the tapu and hab and keys for the build will i hand rest over, and the builder says he understands and accepts this.

Re: bought in Akbuk

Hi Brenny

Congratulations on your purchase - hope everything runs smoothly for you, as it has for many of us.

Akbuk is indeed a small village, which I am sure some people find stifling. I am assuming as you bought here and not the middle of Izmir you are well aware of its peace and quiet?

Having said that, there are plenty of bars and restaurants (Turkish and British bias), small Turkish lokantas (for snacks), a Friday market and supermarkets a plenty for you to get your food from. Most are open during the winter period too.

It is useful to have transport. If you have a car, you can get to the new shopping centre in Soke or Kipa (Kusaddasi way) for shops or the cinema. Altinkum is near if you want to have nightclub action!! lol Bodrum or Izmir are also good shopping days. There are also plenty of ancient sight seeing to do around the area (Priene, Miletos, Efes etc.)

If you are just going to be a holiday maker, you won't have to worry too much about heating through the winter. Although saying that, if you are buying a new build, most of them now have insulation, which could alleviate some of the problems owners of 'older' houses have.

We bought here as we loved the feel of Akbuk and still do. I am definitely no 'newbie' to Akbuk, having lived here for nearly 7 years.

Good luck

Lynda
