Very sad ending in Akbuk

After a very upsetting morning yesterday trying to help Mel with the very seriously injured dog at a Hotel in Akbuk.
This poor dog was left for days without any help and then when help was asked for ,Findik didnt get the medical help she so desperately needed. When she did it was to late for her...
I know there are Dogs trusts and Rescue charities in Akbuk , Who I must add Akbuk Dogs trust did pay for her to be put to sleep by Ali Durmus in Didim . Ali was so caring and concerned about poor Findik.
Wouldnt it be in the better interest of the street animals who at times need help urgently to all join together to campain and collect donations etc and work together. More could be done im sure. Than all working seperately.
Im probably going to upset some people by this post but after what we witnessed yesterday it will be in my mind forever. No animal should be left in that condition .

Re: Very sad ending in Akbuk

at lot of us akbuk holiday owners have tried over the years to get a animal shelter up and running for our area, but not have much luck. the closest we have at the moment is Akbuk dog trust whom do a lot for our local street dogs, I try to do a couple of raffles in the UK and take the money to Chris and his wife at Let's agent next to the council offices. i suppose until our Mayor decides to put some funding into the street dogs this donating food and money is the only way that animal lovers can help.
it was sad to read the posts when Christella was asking for help for this poor little girl but it was nice to know that the likes of yourself and others mulled around to help put her out of her misery. RIP poor little girl.

Re: Very sad ending in Akbuk

It seems to me that a lot of people in Akbuk do NOT know that there IS an animal shelter here being run by an English registered charity called TAG (Turkish Animal Group). The shelter at present is housing 72 dogs and is run by a lady called Karen and her partner Mustafa. She takes in stray dogs, pups, injured dogs and gets them spayed and deflead and wormed. She has a facebook page called TAG Karen so please have a look. Her charity was registered in April and she has dogs that can be adopted and she does an amazing job of rehoming some dogs in the UK etc. The shelter is just outside the village of Kazikli (which is about a fifteen minute drive over the mountains from Akbuk and I am sure you will be welcome to go and have a look if you are in Turkey. I know a lot of people do not know about this but please if you can make it known and any donations of food etc would be greatly appreciated. Most of the funding is coming from Karens own pocket at the moment and she is doing an amazing job - I have never known someone so dedicated to the street animals. Akbuk Dog Trust have also done a lot to help the dogs and cats on the street as well.

Re: Very sad ending in Akbuk

At least there is a shelter now in Akbuk.....I assume neuter and release is also undertaken by this shelter for dogs in Akbuk?
I read recently that the mayor of Akbuk had withdrawn funding for the N/R programme.....surely with the shelter there,he can now be approached and discussions held to help sick and injured street dogs by reinstating the funding and using the facilities that are there for the street dogs as you say.
I did think tht the TAG shelter was a private shelter funded by public donations raised all over the world? The charity being newly registered in UK?
Thankyou for posting cafezara,....at least now people know where to go and who to contact.
