Akbuk Clinic

Yesterday my wife went to the clinic to ask about having a routine blood test, however she never got that far, when she asked the doctor if he spoke any english he answered with a dismissive wave and the word Didim. At first i just thought how rude then i thought how uncaring of a so called caring profession. Now im thinking is the clinic of any good to us expats is there any services we can get there and is there a policy of no brits, anyone had good or bad experiences there.

Re: Akbuk Clinic

Hiya Jeff, Tony had an injection there. The doctor at Didim hospital prescribed it and we went to the chemist in the village who told us someone at the clinic will administer it. When we got there there was only a nurse and cleaner around, they didn't speak any English, luckily a local lad walked in that we knew, and he translated for us, I think without him we would have been a bit lost. Re: Akbuk Clinic

My daughter had her hand stitched up there and they were lovely to her and us, the worried parents.

We paid about 40tl, they did say we could have it free in Didim, but we chose to have done there.

ps Just a quick note, the person you spoke to might not/most probably could not speak any English, they might have said Didim to make it easier for you.

My seven years experience of Akbuk is that most people are very helpful, please try not to think there is a policy of 'No Brits' as this doesn't really help anyone in the long run.

What kind of clinic is it? Is it a government run "Saglik Ocagi" or a private one?

Unless it's changed in the last couple of years it is a Red Crescent clinic.

Re: Akbuk Clinic

Had a problem with afoot at our last stay in Akbuk and went to the clinic close to the 101 store. Very nice and professional femal doctor who spoke rather good english. Her husband was also present and he spoke even better.

Really surpised to hear about the communication problems you experienced. Is this the same place? I give them my highest recommendations.

No not the same place. Whilst i accept that the doctor may have spoken no english there was no excuse for his rudeness.

Re: Akbuk Clinic

Went to the Akbuk clinic the other day with my daughter and 31 class mates! (noisy! lol)

All of them had blood taken for testing (19 different tests in all, sugars etc.)

The next day they all had their results and a couple where called back in for further tests.

Quick work, someone was working overtime

Re: Akbuk Clinic

We have nothing but praise and thanks to the Akbuk health centre , my wife is diabetic and had a severe foot infection she was treated there every morning for over a week free, and given priority over those waiting we speak a little Turkish the nurses understood us and Dr.Faruk is no problem if you comprehend the volume of people they deal with there each day you can understand they do have off days .We would use Akbuk well before going to Didim. As for the staff not speaking English you are not in England and if you are that concerned go private.Seasons greetings to you all, even the wingers.
