moving to Akbuk, so much to think about :))

Hiii guys, well we are going back to Akbuk to live with our 2 young boys, we have a house in Akbuk (owned with no mortgage ) , really really happy , cant wait , but so much to think about, i.e. the boys education, i need more information about the school in Akbuk, working there, buying a car/driving etc. I hope my boys pick up Turkish quick, my husband is Turkish, they do have the basics in them but its just about them making friends easy and adapting to the school . We will be there come beginning of 2015, will look forward to making new neighbors and friends

Hiya and good luck. Our plans to move out there were well and truly scuppered at the very last hurdle by the most recent property crash. We still visit as much as we can and plan 'B' is well under way. We will make it out there one day, just need to keep working at it, so envy you but wish you lots of luck in your adventure.

Hi,
As regards to the School I can't help you there. As regards to buying a car you will probably get a better choice in the bigger towns/cities like Izmir or Bodrum for-instance.

There are lots of threads on TLF regarding Driving in Turkey that I am sure will be of help.

I wish you good luck and happiness and hope you the boys settle in well.

Thank you all for you replies and support. I will keep you all posted on our progress Just he hardest part is to leave my family here behind heartbreaking thinking about it and my parents and grandmother are begging us not to go I feel awful about this, last time we lived in Altinkum for 1 year and I found it very hard saying goodbye and thinking of having to go through it again hurts like mad

Re: moving to Akbuk, so much to think about :))

There has been alot of threads about Akbuk schools the last couple of months - so most of your questions will hopefully be answered.

Leaving grandparents, family and friends are a huge concern when you relocate.

Our children were only 3 and 2 years when we came over and the parting tears were incredible!!! But we have found that when we get together with our family and/or friends (us going back when the kids are off school/them coming over to enjoy the sunshine) we have QUALITY time together. Nobody is in their 'normal' hectic routines - so the time together is good.

We have been here along time now, and I am sure the grandparents all still 'miss' the kids at times, but they all have an amazing relationship with each other. In my own experience, the relationship I had with my grandparents who lived 5 hours away was the same, if not better, than the grandparents down the road which I saw every day.

But not every one experiences this and end up returning to their family and friends - but that is the good thing - nothing is ever set in stone and we should all just try and find out what suits us at different times of our lives ;-)

ps just read a thread about someone leaving Turkey to buy a van to travel - we would LOVE to do that when the kids have flown the nest!!

Re: moving to Akbuk, so much to think about :))

Wow - sold your house and a new baby - stressful, but exciting times

If you need any more information before you come, I'm sure there are plenty of us willing and ready to help!

On one small note, please make sure you register your boys in school pretty much as soon as you get here (the headmaster is usually in sporadically over the holidays.) The paperwork sometimes takes a while (depending on their age/if they finished a whole school year in the UK etc) and the last thing you want is for them to miss the first couple of 'bonding' weeks of a new year...

Good luck on your move

Lynda

Thank you linda. Yes very exciting and stressful oh well lol. We planning on going as soon as able after birth so looking at last week july /first week of august. So the kids can settle in a little before starting school. Also it will give us time to register them as soon as possible ready to start in September
