Support required
Hello peeps,
I was asked to put a thread on here asking for your help and support by Mark and Charlie who are both local residents here. (MarK runs the local Bike tours and Kayaking center and Charlie's two youngest attend the school).
On Saturday 21st October they are doing a sponsored swim from Akbuk fish farms across the bay to Akbuduk Elementary School at Sahte Cennet, a distance of approx 5-6km.
They are raising money to buy computers for the local school, and hopefully pay a years rental for internet access.
It is being supported by the local people, with a breakfast meze being provided by the lads from the Campus Bar.
If you would like to sponser them, all monies would be gratefully recieved, and also a fun morning could be had.
You can PM me with details, or turn up for the morning out.
The swim will start at approx 7.30am and should take between 3-4 hours.
I will be providing tea and coffee from my house, so if you come with binoculars, you will be able to watch the fun.
Alternatively, if anyone has an old computer or laptop that they no longer require or works, they would also be gratefully recieved, as we have a handyman who will attempt to recycle them into a working model.
Thankyou in anticipation of your support
Pennie xx

Re: Support required
I have just come back from Fevzapasha, and saw two young english children coming from the school..... i was overcome by shyness, and planned to go back later in the week, at the end of school, to say hello to the "parent". Unfortunately time just flew, as usual. I really wish I had now so that I could have sponsored the guys. That is one hell of a swim, the guys must do more than a doggy paddle....
I wish them luck.
If you are interested I have a defunct laptop in UK, I could bring it out next April. Don't know if it is repairable, but someone may know how to get it working again.

Re: Support required
Hi Pennie
Andrew and I would love to help, having met Mark and admiring what he is doing for the local school.
We are now back in the UK but would love to contribute, can you send us an email Judizipser@tiscali.co.uk, so that we can have an address or bank details to send over some lira.
To Mark and Charlie, good luck.
Andrew and Judi

Re: Support required
Having just recently got back from Akbuk, spoken to Mark and Charlie's wife about this event I know how much they would appreciate your support on this. While I was there I went out from Paradise Beach on the support boat to be used and although the bay was like a millpond that day, it is still a long way to swim!
For those of us Brits, fortunate enough to have bought in Akbuk this is a nice way to show the locals that we care about the prospects for children in Akbuk and the wellbeing of the neighbourhood generally and not just the rising prices of our villas.
