Re: 'New Alanyans' reveal their concerns

As usual Hurriyet has it's finger on the pulse LOL!

This newspaper has a reputation for publishing the blindingly obvious weeks or months after the competition. It is obvious that journalist who wrote this knows virtually nothing about Alanya's foreign communities...

There has been more hassle this year because business is bad. Simple as that. It is the tourists who are hassled. As residents we are "familiar faces" - we don't usually get hassled and if we do a simple "direk" normally ends it.

Pricing in the tourists shops is another matter. We simply don't shop in these places. We go to the same shops for our day to day items and we are charged the same as Turkish people. Alanya is over developed but the developer bankrupties and sales slowdown will curb this process over the next 2 or 3 years.

İ think the Belediye have gone a long way to curb the hassle with the security cameras in the 'hot spots' and fining places where hassle can be seen as this breaches the standards they are trying to implement. They need to go further though and the Zabita should do more to deal with the rip off and double pricing which goes on.
There is a Foreign Residents Committee which meets in the Town hall every month and advises the Belediye about complaints from tourists and residents alike.
