Hi Jane..im not really a Virgin Queen..im just shirley..i dont know why i put that..!!

The Dimcay is a paradise..there is nowhere like it. The river comes into the sea at Tosmur. They are building a baraj/dam on this river, its almost finished and its worth a trip up there to see this. All along the river there are restaurants, starting with a place that has been done up to represent an Anatolian village..it has its own swimming pool so is not actually on the river itself...further on from there the river gets steadily wider and more free flowing.and the most popular restaurants start to appear, there are many places and all of them super. Lately many have rigged up water slides and chutes very popular with kids. Pinarbaşı piknik restaurant is very popular and lovely, i think this is the last one before you come to the Baraj site and a lot of people dont venture further. However to my mind the places after the Baraj are nicer, less crowded in the season and the water is more sparkling. We always go to a place called Nehir Piknik You can lounge all day in a tree house,or on platform like places on the river..quite safe, these are carpeted and cushioned and have a little table for your drinks and/or meal..and if you dont want to eat...just drink..thats ok too.
i think there is another thread on the Alanya forum there are pictures of the Dimcay posted by Umit/VWBug..(where has he got to?).
İ havent been to the Aqua park near Avsallar so i have no idea what its like. There is an Aquapark right in the centre of Alanya,in the Damlataş area, there is also a cinema on the same site.
On the other side of Avsallar you should take a day out at Alarahan..there's also a nice river there and a restored Han(ancient Selcuk warehouse). On the mountainside there is also a Selcuk Castle which blends in with the colour of the mountain and you really have to look hard to make it out.
you must meet Jez as i know that he and his family love the Dimcay and would spend all their time there if they could.

Re: Things to do and sights to see in Alanya.

hi Jane its easy to find...from avsallar go straight through Alanya , get onto the coast road, pass Oba after Oba its Tosmur and you will come to a bridge go over and then double back at the roundabout and you will see the signs for Dimcay...there are signs all over the place..but just follow the sign, you will pass the all night Auditorium Disco, and then go through a short tunnel, and a little way further on the restaurants start to appear...its super...also in the same area but in the mountains there is the Dimcay cave, this is a huge cave complex and well laid out, it has a great restaurant and vantage point to look down the valley to Alanya and the sea.

Jane you could also go to visit on the Alara river which is about 10 mins from you heading back towards Antalya. There is a brown ( cultural/interest) sign to Alarahan. This is a old caravansaray which has been renovated and converted to a "Turkish Night" venue. You drive for about 10 mins along this road and you will come to Alarahan on a corner. Lots of car parks and restaurants there but if you want something little bit more special ignore all the boys calling you and continue to head on for about 5 mins here the road ends and in front of you is an amazing castle on a hill and 2 small restaurants. I visit the very end restaurant and have never been dissappointed with the fish. When it is warmer you can swim in the river and even take a walk around the bottom of the castle to a bend in the river that has a natural pool and small sandy area. Very Lovely..ad not over crowded even in summer.
