Re: Who Is In Alanya??
I am also in Alanya, Oba district and soon a property in Kargicak. I agree not much people from the Alanya area. The only ones I have seen is yourself and I forget her name she is in the UK at present, went to the restaurant Golden Beach a fews weeks back recommended by her when I was out for a week. I have read all your posts on Alanya including "Shoes" !! Most posts are from what I call the Brit side of Turkey, where as we are in a Eurozone area with all the Germans, Dutch ect. Although I take everything in I prefer not to get involved in posts that cause arguements between members. I prefer to see what knowledge is given then decide if it serves my purpose. I think thats what forums are about, gathering information about a location and meeting new friends.

Re: Who Is In Alanya??
Hi Andy, the Kargicak property is a Turkish semi-detatched house up in the hills a bit. Waiting for the TAPU to come back. Other property is in a converted hotel in Oba, a 1 bed apartment. When I was down a few weeks ago I was shown round another converted hotel in Alanya centre when I suddenly realized it was the old Oxford Apartments Thomas Cook used to use as resort location. Did'nt get in to look around as seller did not show up for the appointed time so went off and bought in Kargicak. All depends on social life around Alanya if decide to retire their. At present finding it difficult to find brits out and about. In Oba all Germans and Dutch.

When you are here next you are welcome to come along to the Ex-pats meeting, where they are all English and meet up every Friday night at a restaurant just at the end of Alanaya Ataturk RD, play the Turkish games, have a drink and chat the night away, I dont have the details to hand but Lynda knows more about it, as ive only been once, she is in the UK at the mo for another 4 weeks but may get on here whilst away and let you know, unless of course any one else knows.
Shirleyanntr...Do you know where it is, i've forgotten the name????????

Re: Who Is In Alanya??
Hi, I have an apartment in the centre of Alanya, I only found this forum a few weeks ago and I have really enjoyed reading the posts, we only use our apartment for holidays and I doubt I will be able to contribute much but just thought I should say hello!

Re: Who Is In Alanya??
Hi Alison and welcome to the forum, yes there is alot of info on here, and many of the members only use their property as a holiday home, so you are not alone.
Why not go to the "introduce yourself" section of the forum, post a little about yourself and your property, I am certain you will receive a very warm welcom whilst also making new friends with the same interest. Turkey.
Again Welcome.

Re: Who Is In Alanya??
there are 10000 yabancılar..(foreigners) living in Alanya.
many people dont have or use pc's..
there is an active group..for expats..BUT by expats i dont only mean brits..although they tend to be in the majority.
the goup meet every friday in My restaurant...its beside the last set of traffic lights as you leave alanya on the coast road...
for those of us who have lived in Alanya for many years we know there is good co-operation between other europeans...who take part in many of the activities organized by the group....such as picnics and boat trips and trips up to Antalya etc..
i feel its a shame to just want to be where there are other uk people.
the germans in particular that live here are a very sociable lot ..easy to make friends with.
when i had my restaurant in alanya i had more customers from Dutch/German /Scandanavians than from any other expat group....i made an effort to learn some german which in turn made them try some english!! great fun.
most expats(i hate that word)..eat at the Sultan Sofrası cos its good and cheap and open all year
and a favourite meeting place for a coffee is the milka bar restaurant next door but one to the main post office.

Re: Who Is In Alanya??
Hi, Shirley,
Can you please give directions of how to find the Sultan Sofrasi.
Like other members I am also buying a villa in Kargicak, about a mile up the side of a mountain, on a development known as Taurus Park. If any other members are buying on the same development and have any idea of how close the first villas are near to being completed would be pleased to hear from them. Although I have every confidence in the Company building my villa I find it very frustrating that there is generally a lack of response to me e-mails asking for up-dates of progress. However I am slowly getting used to the fact that in business affairs there is a vast difference between how British and Turkish Companies operate. I say this working for the largest house-builder in the UK.
Anyway I will be back in Alanya at the end of April, for once again another site visit, and am optimistic that I may see my dream home nearing completion. Have just celebrated the second anniversary of when I first signed my contract!!!
