Apologies for the late arrival of the newsletter this month. The Info Calendar is now in eight languages which we hope will benefit you all when looking for ‘what’s on’ during your visit to Alanya. We have included as usual some interesting articles taken from our local newspapers. We also have a new profile so check it out! Till next time, happy browsing.

********* NEWS FROM ALANYA *********
A First in Turkey
The recently rebuilt Kuyularönü Mosque should be ready at the end of February according to the Alanya Mufti Representative, Mehmet Seven.
The mosque, with a capacity of 150, is on 2 floors. The lower floor will house a library, he explained. He thanked everyone who had contributed to the construction of the building.

The quotation of verses from the Koran will have a Turkish version beneath. This is the first time this has been done in Turkey. Mehmet Seven said the prayers on the walls must be known and understood by all citizens which was the reason for writing the translations.

Furthermore, at the entrance to the mosque, sacred sayings from the Hadith have been written. These are in Turkish, English and German to ease understanding.

Roman Artefact Found
A gravestone belonging to the Roman era, found in January when a house in Gazipasa was being demolished, has been put on display in Alanya Museum. The Museum’s representative, Seher Türkmen, gave the background to the discovery.
Someone found the stone, from AD II or III, about 60 or 70 years ago and put it in the house without telling anyone. When the house was to be demolished the Gazipasa Kaymakam was informed that the stone had been found. In turn the Kaymakam told the museum and the stone was collected and restored ready for display.
