Re: Alanya Golf Clubs x 6

What about the water situation? Golf courses = major drain on water resources.

I'm sure that won't be a problem. There never seems to be a shortage of water in countries like Turkey. England maybe but in Turkey with desalination plants I can't see it being a problem. They also have a good amount of rainfall throughout the year which is often welcome and with the technology of today I'm sure it will work well.
Alanya will certainly see more golf tourists and it will work well like Belek golfing area.

Are you seriously suggesting that it is OK for our Earth to use enormous amounts of energy for desalination, (and likely generate huge amounts of CO2) for some tourists to hit a small ball into holes?. they have desalination plants in northern Cyprus ( I have visited them) and they can only afford to run it at half capacity.

I'm not actually suggesting anything.

No, it's so the women dont have to look at the disgusting beer bellies and pathetic little budgie smugglers hiding a hopeful little wren.

Modern golf courses are able to use sea water for irrigation. The science of growing grass has moved on considerably from years past - just look at the pitches from "match of the day " from 10- 20 years ago.

Surprised that you missed the point .

The cynicism is meant to be supportive of women , in a country that is often dismissive of them.

Hey ho .

Re: Alanya Golf Clubs x 6

Talking of water shortages/waste water. I have often seen hose pipes gushing out water for hours/days on end and going nowhere, not watering or cleaning anything just waste. It really makes me feel rather sad and I wonder at the ignorance of people who think that water is not a precious commodity. (This is in Turkey)

AI, have you ever visited Alanya. They have 2 rivers (Dimcey and Obacey) flowing into the sea, millions of gallons an hour. They have water tankers out constantly on the roads watering the grass and flowers.I don't think a couple of golf coarse's will affect Planet Earth, anytime soon.

Yes, I have visited Alanya many times in my 30 odd years here on and off. I was really referring to the issue of water security world wide. We live on the edge of the 4th largest lake in Turkey and it is currently about 60cm below its normal level.
I found this case study on water security and tourism in Majorca interesting, as it relates to the impact of tourism in a similar Mediterranean climate.
