Re: Gunaydin Alanya

Hello Meshe - where do you live in America? I lived and worked there for 10 years, between the age of 22 and 32 years old ... I am now 67 years old and retired. I live 6 months of the year in Side, Turkey which is a one hour's drive from Alanya, and 6 months in Cardiff, Wales with my partner of 7 years, Mike ...

If you wish to work anywhere in Turkey, you will need to get a work permit and a residency permit as well. To get those you must also have Turkish health insurance. Look at these links to help you ...

Good luck Meshe and let us know how you get on, won't you?

If you ever come to Side, let me know and we could meet up for a drink or two. Side has the 2nd longest sandy beach in all of Turkey and the longest promenade in the Mediterranean. It has a quaint little harbour with bars and restaurants alongside it, lots of shops too, very many Roman ruins, including the Apollo Temple where Anthony and Cleopatra fell in love, an active amphitheatre where we often get free concerts in September each year, a Saturday market and the best thing of all ... the Turks themselves ... so friendly and helpful, bless them.

Re: Gunaydin Alanya

Here are photos of Alanya ... https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=ph...w=1280&bih=685

and be sure to visit the Dim Cay River near Alanya. It's where you sit out in the river on pontoons and the waiters come out to serve you there... a really pretty place ... photos of Dim Cay here ... https://www.google.co.uk/search?rlz=....0.TVS47qQPqs8

And here are a few day trips you might like to take from Alanya ... https://uk.viator.com/Alanya-tours/D...sions/d4289-g5

And here are photos of Side, one hour from Alanya ... https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=ph...w=1280&bih=685

And trips you could do if you stayed in Side ... https://www.sidedailytours.com/en/ ... on that website you would pay 10% upfront when you initially book on-line and the remaining 90% on the day of the trip.

If you are in Alanya or Side for 2 weeks or more, you just have to do the trip to Cappadoccia ... here are some photos so you can understand why I say that ... https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=ph...w=1280&bih=685

The trip to Cappadoccia from Side takes 3 days/2 nights ... it goes from Side twice a week ... on Tuesdays and Fridays ... and the cost is 100 Euros = 123 US Dollars = 89 = 470 TL... and for that price you would get the transport = 8 hours drive there and back + all the tours when you are there + hotel, breakfast and dinner + entrance fees to all the sights.

There are frequent balloon flights over Cappadoccia every morning but you would have to get up at 5am to go on one ... see here ... https://uk.viator.com/tours/Cappadoc...d/d5609-9966P1

Pamukkale is another place well worth a visit, despite the tour from Side taking 2 days/1 night, the local tour operators in Side only charge 65 Euros = 80 US Dollars = 58 = 305 TL and that price includes the 4-hour drive from Side to Pamukkale, the hotel for one night with breakfast and dinner, and the entrace fees. Photos of Pamukkale here ... https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=ph...w=1280&bih=685 It may look like snow and ice but in actual fact it is SALT!!! and it's great fun walking in the small pools down that hillside/mountain.

When will you be in Alanya? And where will you stay? Will you be alone or with friends or family?

Re: Gunaydin Alanya

Dear Angela, thank you so very much from bottom of my heart for taking such time to provide all this amazing information.

I haven't checked all these yet. I will write again soon with a proper reply.

Currently, I am in NorthWest Washington with husband and son and we will be travelling together sometime this spring for preliminary leg work to make sure we know what we're doing.

I was born in Pasabahce Istanbul and actually speak Turkish but I have been in USA since about 1987. My ID says 55 but i don't believe it ) The most important thing to us after being in America so long and watching its deterioration, is a place where real fruit continues to grow in natural way. I am delighted to make your correspondence and certainly would enjoy meeting upon our arrival. We don't have an itinerary yet, I need to do more research. Thank you so much... Sincerely, Meshe

Re: Gunaydin Alanya

Turkish fruit and veg can be subject to very high pesticide and fertiliser contamination , have a google and be careful.

The poisonous apple: Turkish fruits and vegetables contain too many pesticides to be sold in the EU

Always wash well .
