This Surgeon Has Restored Sight to 130,000 of Nepal’s Blind

160909_sanduk_ruit.jpg

"Dr. Sanduk Ruit is an ophthalmologist on a mission to restore sight to Nepal’s blind. He is the executive director of the nonprofit Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology in Kathmandu, Nepal, and has operated on more than 130,000 patients.

He has adopted innovative surgical techniques for cataracts and often travels to perform operations, walking up to seven days hauling surgical equipment to reach patients who live in Nepal’s most remote villages. Why does Dr. Ruit do this? He lost family to treatable diseases and knows what it’s like not to have access to healthcare.

Re: Wanted: Good news

After the gulet cruise, I am happy to say we are back in our own bed. I spent the holiday, settling into the cabin, but it was too hot, so went up on deck and it was too cold, so went and found my thermals, and wrapped myself in a blanket, and slept on deck. The early hours of the morning, it's freezing, so back to the cabin I go, which by now is cooler . . and so the holiday went, I don't think I had more than 24 hours sleep over the six days (luckily the last night was in Fethiye harbour, so left after dinner) I don't think we will do that again. xx

Geçmis olsun. I did wonder about doing this at this time of year. End of May sounds about right. Nothing like your own bed is there. Every time I leave home for a few days it makes me very happy to return home.

We did a couple of Gulet cruises when much younger. 1st I would have been about 29 or 30, the next about a year later the first end oy May the 2nd end of June, had a great time on both, Linsey in the not too distant past suggested doing another, I managed to change the subject to football, I have graduated to Junior Suites with large balconys on cruise ships these days, I'm just not 29 any more !
