Hey all this talk about customs has put the wind up me, has anyone had any probs with them, how does your bank know where your money goes, I use a money corporation to transfer so can they still find out, this is scary stuff we only want to put some there to pay the bills, thanks for all your replys on banking by the way , I think we have decided to stay with ISbank as HSBC do not give me any straight answers and I will open account in lira, Thanks all, susi

Re: customs

You may be confusing Customs for the Inland Revenue (Tax Man).
Tax Man wants to know about offshore bank accounts, and I read this weekend that they are demanding this information from UK banks. They are also checking on people who own foreign property and, according to the article, will assume that you are renting it out (making taxable income) unless you can prove otherwise.

Re: customs

Immac,

They're called H M Revenue & Customs and have been for sometime !

So "The Taxman " and "The Customs " are the same organisation.

Re: customs

Actually it is "HM Revenue and Customs", but the aspect of their work that susi was asking about is relating to tax and offshore banking, which is the Revenue side not the Customs side. Pedants rule KO!

Re: customs

as far as i know the uk and turkey ave a reciprocal tax agreement wgere if you pay tax on your savings in turkey then you dont pay double tax in uk ,and vice versa for turkish uk based citizens.when you open your lire int acc at the maturing date the bank give you your int less tax, at least that is what happens to me .
