Traveling with Onur Air Lines

Hi im shazyboy and i have some concerns i would like to share about Onur Air a low budget domestic Airline. In the past history Onur Air has been banned from several Western European airports due to safety code violations. I have also been told that around New Year's this year, a cargo hold busted open mid-flight and luggage fell into the Sea of Marmara. I totally understand the fact that you get what you pay for. But after hearing all this it's making me think twice. These airlines are way cheaper than many others airlines that i have come across. I have been tempted to fly with them many times as they are doing direct flights from major U.K Airports to bodrum, also Hotel and transfers to Altinkum at unbelievable prices. What i would like to know is other peoples experiences and opinions about this airline. Do you thinks its a Bad airline or is it just Blow out in proportions.

Re: Traveling with Onur Air Lines

Hello

I have used Onur air three times in past twelve months, twice out of Belfast and once out of Manchester. On each occasion I found they gave a satisfactory service, considering the lower prices paid. All told they were of an equal stature to the british based flights i have also used. In fact the one thing I did notice was that on each occasion there was minimal delay which I could not always say of Airtours etc.

Re: Traveling with Onur Air Lines

I used Onur once and found them ok - plane cleaner and more leg room than Pegasus. Heard of one incident that was a bit scary but won't repeat it because I got a ticking off from another member for relating it in response to a previous query. When we were travelling Izmir to Dublin with Pegasus a couple of weeks ago the Onur flight was delayed by a few hours.

Re: Traveling with Onur Air Lines

Love these stories,I heard or a source said, where did the information come from,I think if the hold opened in mid air, more than the luggage would have fallen into the sea. There have been many stories about Onur air,I've flown with them a few times and other than slight delays, which I've also had with B.A. no other problems, there are a few threads on Onur air already.

Re: Traveling with Onur Air Lines

From internet , source http://www.answers.com/Onur%20Air

Incidents and accidents
Onur Air has been suspended from taking off or landing in France, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Germany for alleged safety breaches and the alleged need to tighten security standards. The airline denies all allegations, but 40,000 passengers have been left grounded as a result. Talks have been held with the Dutch aviation authorities[1]. After the airline and the Dutch aviation authorities reached an agreement, the ban was lifted and the airline was allowed to fly to the Netherlands again. Onur Air has threatened to sue the Dutch government because of alleged losses after its banishment, estimating their loss is at least 60 million euro of which they will claim 15 million. The Dutch government refused to reimburse them and questioned whether Onur Air has taken the banishment seriously and reviewed the safety of their aircraft.

On July 18 2006 there was an incident where the tail of an Airbus A 321 aircraft hit the runway during landing, damaging the pressurized passenger cabin.

On 15 September 2006, a pilot refused to fly a Onur Air flight, telling passengers that the plane was unsafe. This led to a reported 'mini-riot' on the plane[2].

On January 01 2007 an incident occoured whereby the cargo hold door of a McDonnell Douglas MD-88 aircraft burst open during flight. This was caused by a rapid depressurisation in the cabin. Luggage spilled onto the Runway when it touched down at Istanbul.[3]

I use Onur air regularly, and have not had any problems.

Re: Traveling with Onur Air Lines

Flew with Onur in January for the first time, no problems, cabin crew super, food not so super but no problem, all in all very good service. Have booked again for Christmas time and flying with them, no qualms. There are a few stories on the web but then when you watchTV reports on places such as East Midlands Airport and their security staff as shown this week - who do you trust?

Re: Traveling with Onur Air Lines

I think the biggest problem is cancellation of flights and the near fraudulant activities of companies like Goldtrail who book Onur air flights.
I think its a bit unfair to worry people with stories of aircraft falling apart in the sky. If their safety was in doubt then they would not be flying. They cannot be worse than any other budget airline.
as i said its the Agents that need watching

Re: Traveling with Onur Air Lines

Have flown with Onuair several times and always been really happy with them, excellent prices, brand new planes, extra leg-room seat foc, and free soft drinks, and the flights so far have been on time. We last flew with them in April, and did not even charge us for our excess luggage, wish we had returned with them rather than Thomas Cook, but that another story,
