Can Someone Help This Dog
I am in the process of moving from my central apartment to a villa behind the Apollo Temple. I am making daily trips to the villa to do little finishing jobs etc. On the back road about a week ago, I noticed a dog on some wasteland that was extremely emaciated and limping from a leg injury.
I have been taking food and water to her every day and she is very nervous and timid and would not allow me to get close to her. She would only approach the food and water when I had walked away. She also has some kind of respiratory infection as her breathing is very bad.
Tonight she was laying very motionless and I was able to get close to her. She did not have the strength to even get up. I am worried sick that she is going to die. I am taking my vet to treat her in the morning (I tried to get him out tonight but he was not in town).
I have three cats, so bringing her home is not an option (though I desperately wish it was). Can anyone help in nursing this poor dog back to health?

Re: Can Someone Help This Dog
lt breaks my heart when l hear of the unnecessary suffering around us.l have been in quite e few perdicaments just like you, feeding, and even paying for all the vaccines to give the dogs a chance in life. But once l either have found a home for this animal,or has been taken to the kennels, because of situations that arrises. You will find there will always be another animal in need.
lts a losing battle, until the attitude towards the animals changes, and then, there's a possibility the dogs, can have a better quality of life.
l do fully understand of your concern,if you cannot find someone that can provide a loving home for the dog,and the dog is just continuously suffering.l hate to say this, but it would be better to call the vet out,and have it put to sleep.l just hope there is someone, that has the time and patients to bring this dog back to health."Well done"!in showing such kindness,l just wish there were more like you,if there were the suffering globally would be obsolete

Re: Can Someone Help This Dog
Ang, if it is possible for you to take the dog home, then I am sure she will get on OK with your three cats, especially if your new home has a garden she can stay in. The fact that she is weak means that the cats will have time to get used to seeing her in the garden without feeling threatened. I do hope that you can do something for this poor creature, but, as Bobthenob says, maybe the kindest thing would be to get the vet to put her to sleep.

Thank you all for your kind words. Harem, I recently took in a puppy that had been ill treated and then thrown out! Thankfully, I have just found a home for her with a very loving turkish family whose children adore her.
The puppy stayed with me for several weeks and my cats were very aggressive towards her. I was almost afraid to leave the house, trying to shut them in separate rooms for fear my cats would attack her. Because of this, it would be much better if someone could look after her even outside as a street dog, but in the meantime, she is in desperate need of some indoor tlc.
I am going to see her with the vet now. Please god! let her still be alive. This is breaking my heart.

Re: Can Someone Help This Dog
Quick update. The dog was there laid under the shelter of a tree. We managed to get close to her, but as soon as the vet pulled the injection out of his bag, she dragged herself up and squeezed through a hedge into a neighbouring field. For fear of distressing her any further, we have decided to put some anti biotic tablets in some food for her. I am returning shortly with some cooked chicken and the tablets.
The vet says she has a very serious infection but there is a good chance to save her if we can get her to take the tablets. She is in a terrible state but still managed to wag her tail when she saw me even though she is extremely wary!

lt seems this dog has gone through some terrible moments in life to make her so scared of certain things. This tells me,the dog has been severely mistreated by acts of voilence from people on a mostly everyday occurrence. There is some sort of animal charity based in Altinkum[l forgot the name of the person]maybe she can advise you what to do,or l can have a rummage around for the number and the name.
How old is the dog,and what kind of breed is she.The reason why l ask is.My dog is a spanial type, and scared of everything[which gives me a laugh]She has never forgotton her younger days when she was badly abused. And the strange thing is.She approaches the English, but will never approach people with middle eastern features, especially kids.
l know your doing your best,by showing the dog that he feels he is wanted, which he probably never had in his life.Feeling loved is a remedy for recovery in itself

Re: Can Someone Help This Dog
Hi Ang, there is a animal shelter in Didim, if you go on to absolutely altinkum community forum you should be able to get some details there, they might come out and collect the dog.
