Please help re. CAR INSURANCE

We are due to travel to Turkey by our uk registered car next week but are stuggling to get insurance for Turkey and for more than 90days.

Can anyone please give me any contacts and advice?

Also if we were to take insurance in Turkey can we get for only 3-6months and if we do take the years policy can we cancell it with a
refund?

Thank you

Jayne

Re: Please help re. CAR INSURANCE

hi Jane,

Try NFU Mutual Car insurance They used to issue a 12 month green card. Make sure it covers all the countries you're going to travel through, ie, Serbia, Croatia etc

I also got some insurance here in Turkey to cover my return journey, including the green card, and received a full refund when I flew back to Turkey (I told them I'd sold the car). Good luck!

You get your insurance at the point of entry to Turkey 3 months 6 months would advise you buy the 6 months if you don't know how long you will be here, its so cheap not worth worrying about. no refunds on cancellation. if you get 3 months then decide you want to be here longer you will have to go back to the point of entry to renew. no worth the grief trying to save some pennies

Re: Please help re. CAR INSURANCE

I thought you were allowed to keep a UK registered car in Turkey for 6 months, or has it changed?

Yes & they will only sell you what are entitled to have, we had to show residency book to get 6 months, plus they write down the exact date you have to leave the country with your car - a lot of people get this wrong & get into bother. It is cheap.

Yes ,there was a thread on here a while back about someone who went over & did not realise a long time after their insurance ran out that they had to go a long way back to point of entry to re insure plus heavy fines for the time they were not insured [lucky they did not have a accident ] . If i remember ,the fine was so much that they left the car with customs .

Re: Please help re. CAR INSURANCE

Buy Green Card insurance at the border for at least 6 months but don't forget that if you enter on a Tourist Visa it will only be valid for 90 days and you'll have to surrender the car at a Customs compound while you do a "Visa Run" . That'll cost you time and money.
