Phone problems

Good afternoon to all you lovely members , a query really . I use a call plan with Virgin media in the UK to call a turkish vodaphone number in Turkey. Basically for a fixed amount I can call anywhere in the world either landline or mobile for a certain amount of minutes per month.over the years it has been a pretty good option as we need to call our business partner two or three times a day. Sometime we experience connection problems which after reporting to Virgin normally clear after a few days. Over the years I have been told by Virgin it is a problem with the routing of calls which is strange as we can ring other mobiles or landlines no problem. Recently, connection has been bad , constantly cut off, or the call goes into a loop and I then end up talking to myself listening to our partner repeating the same conversation as if it has been recorded and played back over and over again. Have taken it up with Virgin who blame the Turkish end, which I find strange as I can call the same number from a BT line, or Virgin Mobile no problem and get through immediately. It appears to be number specific and only when using Virgin media house phone and calling a vodaphone turkish mobile. The service is very sporadic and works perfectly for a few months then seems to get really bad. Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated as it appears just to be the one number which we are required to call several times a day.

I think you have answered your own question! [It appears to be number specific and only when using Virgin media house phone and calling a vodaphone turkish mobile. The service is very sporadic and works perfectly for a few months then seems to get really bad.] you get what you pay for!!!

That's the problem I am not getting what I pay for and wondered if anybody on a forum specifically for Turkey had encountered the same problem. In the past I have found the forum to be very helpful.

Couple of options if your Business partner agrees

1) Purchased a non-smart ( no internet ) PAYG mobile phone from either Virgin mobile or Car phone warehouse, you can pick up a phone for about 10 Nokia 100 series or good for call quality and very small ( their phones are not locked to any network)
Purchased a Virgin mobile payg sim card
Receiving calls in Turkey on a Uk number costs zero and as you are on a
call plan with Virgin media to Uk Virgin mobile numbers are free ( check)
every 6 months buy a 5 top up voucher and every 6 months ask you business partner to send 1 text msg to you which is chargeable ( keeps the phone number active)
Listening to voicemail or receiving texts are chargeable so avoid
No need to register phone in Turkey
Total cost to you and your business partner over 6 months 5

2) if you have an unlocked spare mobile phone in the Uk you could purchased a lebara Payg sim once you received sim send a free text 'BEST' to 38885
call costs to Turkey are 1p per minute(land line) or 5p per minute(mobile)

Lebara uses uk vodaphone network

No problem, phone I would suggest is something like a nokia 105
no internet access and 30 day battery life
even when the phone is out of credit you can still receive calls in Turkey
although unable to listen to voicemail or receive just remember to make 1 chargeable call or text every 6 months and a buy a top up voucher every 6 months for 5 it is possible for you to top the phone up from the Uk or just email your Turkish business partner the code
as phone is very basic no turkish language option,
english and a couple of eu languages only

Forget to mention it would best to use the phone in the Uk for 1 or 2 calls before you travel
