Yes an official notification is issued by the border guard stating the length of overstay and the penalty, the ones I have seen are in English and Turkish, they are basic but easy to understand.

Re: Just A Warning - Residency Permit

Couldn't we just show our passport with the exit stamp showing we had left the country?

I assume all the policeman needed to know was that you had left the country before your RP expired, which he could have seen in your passport instead of calling somebody.

And that we CAN exit Turkey when our RP expires and return on a tourist visa, and the problem is just in the lack of communication, right?

Re: Just A Warning - Residency Permit

If you get a VISA sticker rather than an online visa you will avoid any problems.

Re: Just A Warning - Residency Permit

That might well be the solution Sleepy, if stickers are available of course.

The problem is with the computerised system and physical stickers duly stamped should in theory force manual checking. It might well be slower but if they cant get their act together with the computers . . . . It worked well before they introduced all this online nonsense and there were more tourists then.

Re: Just A Warning - Residency Permit

I was just thinking, actually I'm quite surprised that re-entering on a evisa just after a RP had expired and not renewed because it could still mean being in Turkey for possibly 90 days during the previous 180 day period.

Maybe that's another loop-hole they may stop in the future.

Re: Just A Warning - Residency Permit

According to the official notices issued by the border guards when a fine is levied in cases like this the Tourist Visas were never activated when the traveller(s) entered Turkey. I have photos of such documents.

Instead the system clocks them in on their expired or nearly expired Residence Permits. I doubt border guards have any way to override the computer system.

It would appear that the system allows an RP holder 10 days overstay grace before fines start to accrue. Unfortunately that means if a persons RP has not expired more than 10 days before entering they will be entered on their RP whether they have purchased a visa or not.

Residence Permits even recently expired ones take precedence over Tourist Visas. I wonder how many thousands have of RP holders have wasted their $20 on visas because under the new law they assumed their RP's would be cancelled on entry under the 120 day out rule.
