Re: Altinkum to eşme

Marguerite. Just had another thought - I'm sure there's a bus to Cesme from Aydin, rather than having to go to Izmir. Do you change buses there for Altinkum? If so, you could ask.

TBH I cant remember BUT it does sound familiar.
The wife had migraine & we were heading back for my daughters wedding & stuck on Chios............you can imagine the stick I was getting :-( We allowed a week for the drive back & lost two days straightaway.
I even said we could leave the car in Chios & get a flight from Izmir back to the UK but as said, couldn't get off the Island. I had a good mooch around the Island, nice place. Couple of years back when the refugee problem was headline news there was a feature shown on BBC which included Chios, all change from when we were there, tents & lean-to down some streets that I recognised.

Re: Altinkum to eşme

What a nightmare. I lived in Cesme for 6 years until 3 months ago and now live in the Koycegiz area.

I used to go over to Chios regularly and saw it change after the refugees arrived. I don't think the locals or the refugees are having a very good life

Your the first I've known of expats living in Cesme, it looked a really nice & clean place. Is there an expat community there?

There is a resident expat community, but it's now a very small one.

I did enjoy my time there and met some lovely people, and the Turks are very friendly and welcoming. It was only after my dog died last year that I decided to move to somewhere where there would be a lot of places within easy range to visit.

TBH if we were to move back to Turkey (not that we are) Cesme would now suit us. What we haven't done we have seen type of thing. If you have a good Turkish community around you out there, then your more than 80% closer to getting your time out there perfect.
Rocking chair on the front porch would work for us & nipping over to Chios of course.
