I've known a few go in & do their stint. Don't know how true it is but I did hear that if you duck & dive it, it can & will come back to bite you. Even to the extent of unable to get a passport.
I also met someone who was paying not to go in (don't know how much) but he was an architect & could afford to go down that road.
If its only for a year or so then I don't think you end up on the "front line" anywhere, more a case of cook house & catering for officers in some cushy environment. Of course it still allows you the comfort of having your photo taken tooled up to the teeth...........seen loads of them pictures.

Re: Army intake

I was once told by someone who had then recently come out that it was very expensive to buy your way out, plus you have to serve a minimum of 6 months before being able to, so by that time it's hardly worth the cost.

Plus a bit of "street cred" comes into it.

Or buy yourself out then you can brag about how rich you are.
Not forgetting that a lot of people would just think of you as being a coward by not wanting to maybe fight for their country.

Re: Army intake

I think there is a special (short) programme for Turks living overseas who want to get the military service out of the way. someone I spoke to a while ago had done about 6 months at a camp in Burdur province, and paid some money too. This would enable them to come and go freely from Turkey.

Re: Army intake

If you have been to uni for 4 years you only do six months. My friends oldest son did not do service because he worked in America.

Re: Army intake

One of my brothers did 24 years in the British Army, learnt 14 different ways to kill a person with a blade of grass AND even learned how to march in & out of the dole office for a few months.............came good in the end though :-)
