Insurance Cover

The complex I am in has no insurance cover for common areas and it is left to each apartment owner to arrange any insurance required. I am informed this is common in Turkey.

I assume however that claims on individual apartments could be rejected ( and probably should be) if the damage relates to a fault in common property , eg damaged roof tiles which led to seepage in the apartments below. I would think that the insurance company would advise that the common property should have been insured and, in the absence of that insurance, no reimbursement can be considered.

Am I overreacting or do the owners in my complex need to wake up?

Re: Insurance Cover

I have tried to explain the idea of common parts insurance in the past, but just get a blank look. This is just one reason we would never buy on a site or in a large apartment block in TC.We had a flat some years ago in a block of 8, but we all had individual insurance and DASK.
I cannot believe that Turkish insurance companies would pass up the chance for business but to me the biggest problem would be the number of non-payers of any service charges, leaving others to pay for insurance.
