Re: Warning!!! - Please be careful

since we had the ''you know who noname scare'' im very suspicious about new members until they have posted a few times.
and yes there are a lot of first posts that blatantly advertise..
its good to know though that this forum is really well looked after by Mustaq and the mods...and also quite a lot of members who are also on the ball and aware when things don't seem right.

The links I usually click on are usually newspaper articles. Hope these were OK. I will not click on links in future as I did not realise this could cause problems. Learn something new everyday!

Don't ignore every link, it's really make sure your anti-virus and spyware is up to date. Also make sure that the person posting the link is a trusted person although they may be trusted and most post a 'bad' link in all innocence.

My understanding is that Mushtaq is not saying do not clck on any links whatsoever - he is advising you not to open any links posted by new members unless you know or trust the person posting.

I'm just clarifying this as there seems to be some confusion amongst a few, and some of us use links to impart information useful to other TLF members.

yes i go with that Ceemac...we would lose a lot of great info if we didnt open any..
i think the advice is against maybe a first post with a link..as a recent one about a song
and adverts in a first post.

Installed that (well I think I have) computer then made rude burping sound - should I wait for something to be spat out?

Do a scan and it will find all your spyware, you will be surprised how much there is.

Make sure you run spybot in Windows safe mode (F8 or F5 on bootup), then it can clean more files that when running in normal mode

Also, with regards to links. If you run your mouse over a link check at the bottom of the browser window to see where the link will actually take you. On forums such as this you can easily post a link to a harmless news website like http://www.bbc.co.uk but actually be referred to a really really naughty site.

Move your mouse over the link I've posted to see what I mean

I find Adaware removes more spyware than spybot although I do scan with the latter also. It's a free download

Another program I use is Spywareblaster which doesn't scan your computer but helps stop spyware being downloaded.Again a free program.

As Martyn said earlier make sure you do the updates and keep your virus protection updated too.
