Re: Bumping of Threads

So glad this rule is to be enforced. It is very annoying and a complete waste of time and bandwidth to click on a thread with new posts only to read “Bump” or “Bump to top”.

If one has nothing useful to say, one should say nothing.

Re: Bumping of Threads

Whilst not condoning "bumping": it is obvious sometimes why it happens. Someone asks a serious question, but it gets "lost" from the front page (without answers) by subsequent posts on other threads, or new threads starting. So, in order to bring the question back to view, the thread is "bumped".

Sometimes a question appears which gets immediate response. But for someone waiting, it is frustrating that it disappears. Not everyone drops down the Active Thread menu and looks at the current postings.

Shame, but is there another answer to this? I have sometimes seen a thread go unanswered - which is a shame for the original poster.

Re: Bumping of Threads

Andy - or anyone who knows

When I read rule 12 - it seems to suggest to bump up a post and therefore contradict rule 13 to a certain extent

Everyone is commenting on the bumping up but your other point - does it mean that if you have posted and someone asks a question or makes a comment that you can't reply until it is a new page?
I have just had a look through the rules but which rule are you referring too that indicates all of this?

sorry if I just don't see it

Agree

Rule 12:
12- DO NOT post the same question multiple times in multiple threads in the same forum. If no one responds to your question or request, just post a reply to the same message thread again to bring the message to the top of the list so folks notice it.

Re: Bumping of Threads

The main reason for this rule is to stop people just trying to bring notice to their threads, rule 12 is there to stop people opening new threads if the old one is not answered, in this case you can ask if anyone knows the answer etc, i.e. a question post.

The bumps that get annoying are when people are selling something or posted something to get noticed and keep bumping it to keep it active, not adding anything new and not asking a question but offering something.

Re: Bumping of Threads

I think this is going to be a tad harsh on those trying to promote charity events etc.
