Exclamation Role of TLF - some clarification

I have had many emails, PMs and questioned on the forum about why TLF is not doing more to help the people who have lost money in various scams in Turkey.

I would like to try to explain my stance and reasons behind it.

There are a few other sites on the net which 'expose' dodgy builders, emlaks etc. they serve the purpose well and are run by unknown people or aliases, someone you can't quiet get to if you wanted to sue them.

TLF is run by me, I am very visible and known, I am not hiding behind any aliases and have always declared by business interests on here. I am therefore an easy target for harassment from business and individuals who are not happy when they are mentioned on here in less than glowing terms.

My aim in setting upi TLF was and still is to exchange information and help people come together with a common interest - Turkey.

TLF is can't be a crusader for the rights of people who have been ripped off in Turkey, for the reasons explained above, If you have a problem with a business or individual by all means post it here with relevant information but keep it to facts that you can prove and provide evidence if asked for.

What you can't do is to write anything that could be classed libellous statements, see definition below from libel legal definition of libel. libel synonyms by the Free Online Law Dictionary.

Quote:
libel 1) n. to publish in print (including pictures), writing or broadcast through radio, television or film, an untruth about another which will do harm to that person or his/her reputation, by tending to bring the target into ridicule, hatred, scorn or contempt of others. Libel is the written or broadcast form of defamation, distinguished from slander which is oral defamation. It is a tort (civil wrong) making the person or entity (like a newspaper, magazine or political organization) open to a lawsuit for damages by the person who can prove the statement about him/her was a lie. Publication need only be to one person, but it must be a statement which claims to be fact, and is not clearly identified as an opinion. While it is sometimes said that the person making the libelous statement must have been intentional and malicious, actually it need only be obvious that the statement would do harm and is untrue. Proof of malice, however, does allow a party defamed to sue for "general damages" for damage to reputation, while an inadvertent libel limits the damages to actual harm (such as loss of business) called "special damages." "Libel per se" involves statements so vicious that malice is assumed and does not require a proof of intent to get an award of general damages. Libel against the reputation of a person who has died will allow surviving members of the family to bring an action for damages. Most states provide for a party defamed by a periodical to demand a published retraction. If the correction is made, then there is no right to file a lawsuit. Governmental bodies are supposedly immune for actions for libel on the basis that there could be no intent by a non-personal entity, and further, public records are exempt from claims of libel. However, there is at least one known case in which there was a financial settlement as well as a published correction when a state government newsletter incorrectly stated that a dentist had been disciplined for illegal conduct. The rules covering libel against a "public figure" (particularly a political or governmental person) are special, based on U. S. Supreme Court decisions. The key is that to uphold the right to express opinions or fair comment on public figures, the libel must be malicious to constitute grounds for a lawsuit for damages. Minor errors in reporting are not libel, such as saying Mrs. Jones was 55 when she was only 48, or getting an address or title incorrect. 2) v. to broadcast or publish a written defamatory statement. (See: defamation, slander, libel per se, public figure)
Recently we have had a few threads that have been removed or edited because of such statements, I have had emails from various parties with legal threats and had to make a decision, some members are not happy about it but I have to 1st and foremost think of myself and TLF.

Due to a lack of available moderators some of the threads had been allowed to run without check this should not happen now that I have more support on that front. The last few threads I allowed to run because I didn't want to be accused of cover up which I got accused anyway (so can't win either way)

So for the people who have been complaining about TLF/Me not doing enough, I ask you to login with your full names and write the blogs/websites and come out in support in open, it's easy for you to be brave when people don't even know your name or whereabouts.

I hope I have made my position clearer and apologise if some people are disappointed but I'm not a crusader for anything, I facilitate to allow people to come together, hopefully the interested parties can form groups or other websites to carry on more specific roles, like the emlak one and the copy forum which is where most members seam moan about Turkey and the real TLF.
