Question Pay for the bus by card only now

You cannot pay cash for your ride on the dolmus in Antalya any more - only payable by card which is 5 TL... I am not sure if this is also happening in Side ... does anybody know please?

Re: Pay for the bus by card only now

Sounds like a victory for common sense. The end of drivers collecting money and counting change when they should have their eyes and attention on the road. I have been advocating this for years. It may result in a more accurate assessment of their tax liabilities too!

Lol, that's if you're assuming they'll also no longer answer their mobile phones.

It might make it more difficult for tourists to take public transport though, and won't there be money wasted for those who didn't use up all their credit before they return home?

Re: Pay for the bus by card only now

I don't know what akbil are (we drive or take taxi's in Istanbul) but the underground jetons are bought per journey, meaning you don't waste money.

I guess it could be compared to buying an oyster card in London and topping it up too much?

I don't like having to top up the travel card for Izmir, I can never find somewhere to top up (as I rarely use public transport) and I find it a pain, but I understand it does make the system easier....and probably fairer too.

Re: Pay for the bus by card only now

An Akbil used to be the same as an oyster card, top it up and use it on all forms of public transport. The good thing was that it could be set to charge different amounts for the same journey if you could prove that you were oap or students etc.

Re: Pay for the bus by card only now

Just off the phone with Antalya city transport...
5 More things you should know about new Bus Cards;
1- No you can not use money for Nostalgia tram ... No money can be used anywhere for public city transport in Antalya anymore.
2- The card system is only for Antalya metropol area. Towns and villages like Manavgat, Side , Kemer etc. Are not affected . They will decide on their own town consuls.
3- No card for kids below the age of 7. But 7 and up need card. Yet there is no official decleration requirement for age detail for kids. Just say your kid is below 7 wink emoticon
4- NO TIME LIMIT for expiration on the Temporary Cards (Tickets). Just 4 more fill ups on the 5 TL cards. 5 TL card can only be filled 5 TL at a time and 10 TL card can only be filled 10 TL at a time. YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO FILL YOUR TEMP CARDS IF YOU ARE TRYING TO FILL MORE OR LESS MONEY THAN THAT AT A TIME. And can not transfer your left over credits from temp cards to one card Dakota Wallace .
5-There is a high tech solution to fill your cards (NOT THE TEMP CARD THOUGH) You can download a mobile phone app called ANTALYA KART MOBILE from Google play to your Android phone that supports NFC. And then You can follow the instructions on it. YOU CAN PAY WITH YOUR ANDROID PHONE AT THE BUS TOO. I-Phone app has a problem . It can load up your card but can not have you pay at the bus. (Closed NFC problem on I-Phone...I am told)

Re: Pay for the bus by card only now

Sorry if this seems a silly question, but how much are the dolmus rides anyway, especially if there is a 5tl card, or is that just enough for a two way journey?
In Didum 2tl is the normal/average price, so 2+2 = 4, which would mean either wastage on a one-off card purchase or constantly topping up.

Yes they are good, the only problem with the one I bought was that not long afterwards 4G really started hitting the streets and mine doesn't block 4G etc, but have used it many times in taxi's and especially when standing behind some loud-mouthed person at the checkout till.

Just a word of advice to anyone thinking of taking one into Turkey, make sure it's not in your hand luggage because if found by security you could be arrested, not forgetting to mention even here in the UK they legal to own but ILLEGAL to use.
