Cheap wine a thing of the past Duty (Bandrol) is here prices rise by as much as 150%

I was told today that my normal bottle Bagci is going to increase from 3.5ytl to a massive 6.5ytl (which is still not bad in comparison to UK prices) the reason;

Bad news is the Customs people have caught up with the little corner shops and the Wine producers who were sneaking their Wine out of another door without the Bandrol Stickers on them.

These are little pink stickers that go over the top of the bottle, like the ones often seen on Spirit bottles.

Over the next 2 weeks all new wines coming into the shops must have bandrol stickers on them, the penalty for not is massive, Akgullers (Akbuk)cheapest wine which was 2.5ytl is now 6ytl a massive 150% increase.

So the reason for my mail is not to depress you with the news but to give you a chance to stockpile ready for the festive season if you are a Bondrolsiz drinker (I.E. you use a local market that sells the Duty free wine - before it comes to an end when their current dutyfree stock is gone which will be in the next few weeks.

Happy hunting..

The shopkeeper in the little market near us told us this a few weeks ago. The wine there was 2.50ytl and quite nice too, but he told us it will cost quite a bit more now because of the tax/duty, shame. He dosen't haven't any bottles left now for 2.50ytl because I bought it all!!!

Mavi,

Ive found that you have to go to the little corner shops and look, some of them have terrible wine, I have found that any from Bagci are at least drinkable, and the one I buy is really nice, I mean its not quite like a 94' Faustino I Rioja but hey beggars cant be choosers.

here is their web site. http://www.bagcisarap.com/tr/urunlerimiz.html

You can find them in Metro (very expensive) from 15ytl and more the little stores seem to get it soo cheap.

take care
