Earth Tremor?
This was in the Didymian this week .
The lady in question lives in Altinkum...
..."Secondly, did anyone else have an Earth Tremor in their home on Wednesday evening? We have articles on top of our wardrobes, and sitting downstairs watching television, we heard a loud bang from upstairs. Going up to investigate we found a box had fallen onto the bedroom floor from one of the wardrobes. So what, you may say.
This morning my husband John had occasion to switch one of the ceiling lights downstairs on and discovered a long crack in the wall around the door-way leading to the stairs. Now - this crack was most certainly not there yesterday morning. After all, one does not go around looking for long cracks in the wall - does one? So, only one conclusion to come to - earth tremor! We have had them before but nothing major like this, so, is our house becoming weaker and, if so, what can we do about it? Are there any seismologists out there who could tell us please?..."
Anyone else feel this?
Mel and Anne.

Re: Earth Tremor?
This is the nearest listing for that area on that date:
02.01.2008 at 11.11.28. Latitude 39.669 N: 25.821 E: at a depth of 7.9 km, with a magnitude of 3.0: in the Ege Deniz
Nothing else anywhere near there on that date and nothing at night.

Re: Earth Tremor?
I very much doubt that the house is any weaker Mel, Ann or John.

Could subsidence have been the cause?

Re: Earth Tremor?
If the house was prone to long term subsidence then a tremor would certainly accelerate the process, however the RC frame should still be sound. I hope the house remains plumb all round.

What I was thinking Maria. The woman doesn't mention feeling the tremor, just hearing the box fall off the wardrobe.
