Your Turkish friends

When I was in Calis in May last year we stayed for a few days in some apartments until our own house was set up. (I also stayed there for a week in October) When we popped back to the apartments to say hello to the owners, we had a drink with them in their bar and asked for the bill. Our friend Nesrin said we dont have to pay as we are friends now.

I appreciate this as a lovely gesture but cant help feeling guilty as the apartments are their business and I wouldnt like to be seen as taking advantage if for example we wanted several drinks!

So, has anyone else been in the same situation and what would you do?

Tonya, we have got a friend who has a restaurant, we have known him for 8 years now, we've been to house in the winter for meals and when we use his restaurant he always say "no bill". What we do is work out roughly what the bill would have been and leave it as a "tip". If we didn't do this I would feel awkward about eating there as he doesn't do much business these days as he is just on the outskirts of Gumbet and we travel over to his place to give him some business []

In general ive travelled quite a lot and seen a lot of places but i love turkey more than all other destinations the turkish people in my opinion are very friendly with a sense of humour to match they are far more generous than most people give credit for i understand that sometimes you feel like your taking advantage however as you will make friends with many turkish people there will be plenty of time to redress the balance by asking there opinion on the matter im sure they will be only to happy to advise.

just another point last year in altinkum i got caught short and needed a leek i went into the shopping center at the bottom near the roundabout and asked for directions to the toilet on finding them i was informed i had to pay to use them ,i tried to explain that my money was with family outside so they let me use them anyway on getting back outside i got my money and went back to pay the man collecting the money was amazed that id bothered to go back at all he shook my hand(after id washed them obviously)and thanked me for returning to pay .moral of the story it was he that did me the favour and i should have been thanking him for his genourosity.

i bought all my furniture from one shop, and on our last day went in to the shop and picked a table and chairs to be delivered with the rest of the furniture, which i had already paid for,so i went to pay for the table and the shop owner said NO PROBLEM and waved his hand, we went home that same day.do,s this mean he did not want paying?
