Staining Wooden Floorboards

We have wooden floorboards in the bedroom of our older property in Akbuk.
I want to Woodstain them in oak.
What paint would you ask for in Turkish when you want to paint a woodern floor?
And is there a paint shop in Akbuk or Altinkum/Didim you can buy it from?

Mel and Anne.

Re: Staining Wooden Floorboards

I have been told by my son, (who lays wooden flooring), that you need an eco oil to stain it, or a danish oil if you want to bring the grain up. However, don't know how to translate this to Turkish. Perhaps you can bring some out with you?

Re: Staining Wooden Floorboards

Whatever you do, try it on an old bit of wood first, so you don't end up doing the whole floor and then not liking it. Remember also that stains and varnishes, if oil based, can darken with sunlight, so rugs need moving round occasionally. If, like me, you end up mixing your own, do keep some spare in a tightly sealed jar to patch up the odd scratch - if you don't keep some you will never remember the 'recipe' in the future! It is also possible (and effective) to use ordinary watered down immulsion paint in the colour of your choice, and then seal with a water based varnish. This method brings out all the woodgrain and can look really good, here in Uk the whole of our 40 foot sitting room has wooden floors, in an ideal world I would have liked that beautiful silvered oak, but couldn't justify that kind of money, so painted with watered down pewter coloured immulsion and sealed. still looks great 6 years on dispite the best efforts of our dogs to ruin it!
