Gift

Hi all

Like your views on this. We have bought a 2 bed apartment in a block of about 13 apartments. We are on the corner right next to a Turkish residential area. The home on the corner has a Turkish family living there. we would like to introduce ourselves to them and give them a small gift. Any ideas on what sort of gift would be appreciated and is it a good idea? Maybe something not easily obtainable from Turkey?

Martyn when we go we always take chocolate, sweets, biscuits (Scottish shortbread) and sometimes cake. Our Turkish friends love the different types of sweet things we take and I'm sure they would be really disappointed if we stopped taking them. We always take a bottle of whiskey with us as one of our friends loves it[] but I don't know if whiskey is a good idea to give to someone if you don't know them.

Where's Mustafa[?]

We were thinking of Whiskey to butter up one of our neighbors but Murray said we better not as he may be a strict Muslim. Someone please enlighten me cos if they drink their national drink of raki surely to god they can drink a whiskey!

Anna if he drinks raki I would definitely take him a bottle of whiskey The Turks make good alcoholic beverages like Gin, vodka etc but the whiskey is not too good We get a very big smile and a thank you when we give it as a gift

Anna,

The Turkish Cin can be hugely improved if served like a proper G & T should be served. Tall glass, loads of ice, wedge of lemon/lime squeezed into the glass and another wedge to serve. Try it

On the subject of gifts. The Turkish seem to like small dishes for serving, nuts, sweets, etc., so how about a small china bon bon dish?
