Local drinks

What does everyone think of the local drinks in Turkey? Efes I think is like nectar [][] I love it. I have some nice red wines, had a really nice one on Turkish Airlines going over but forgot the name of it and the other drink I drink (alcoholic or what) is gin and although I prefer that well known brand Gordons I do like the cin. A little bar we went to poured me a g&t and they put a piece of green tangerine in it, luuurrvvelly, I also like it with lemon and lime and etc etc

I enjoy the Efes and have had some lovely wines, picked up quite cheaply from the local supermarket. Has anyone any suggestions for a sparkling wine/dry/champagne type? I've tried only one Turkish Champagne and was very disappointed. The market owner recommended one, it cost about £25 and tasted just like Sherry - and not a bubble in sight.

Errr Tricia, yuk I have only tried the red wine sorry. I love champagne and drink it at every opportunity I can but Gary (hubby) doesn't like it at all I think there's something wrong with him[]

Gail,

It's the classy females who appreciate a nice champagne!!! Bollinger's my favourite. I'll let you know if I come across a nice Turkish one.

LOL absolutely. I took a bottle over with me and drank it with our Turkish friends, they said they liked it but I think they were just trying to be polite[:0] They didn't have to drink it I would have been fine

We dont sell any Turkish manufactured champagne at the hotel, we use the proper stuff.

We went for a drive out to Sirince Village today and boy oh boy did they have some great wines there.

Thanks Merv,

Sirince Village looks lovely and I can already feel the draw of the wine. Might have to wait until the end of the season though!
