Question Bathroom terminology on property sales

I have a question, what is the difference between a WC and a bathroom? I thought they were one in the same but it looks like on the estage agent web sites that alot of homes have both???? In USA we say master bath (two sinks, toilet, tub and shower connected to master bedroom), full bath (sink, toilet, tub w/shower), 3/4 bath (no tub), 1/2 bath (no tub or shower). So if you have 2 1/2 baths you know you got 2 full bath and one 1/2 bath in your house. How many baths are considered standard in a Turkish house for good resale value? In American the standard detached house is 3 bedrooms (1 of them a master) and 1 master bath and one full bath.

Re: Bathroom terminology on property sales

I can see the confusion

WC is typically a toilet. Bathroom covers a whole multitude and can also include a toilet.

I think I am right saying that a bath in any Turkish property is considered a luxury fitment. Whilst they arent expensive, they are bulky and a lot of house designs at build were never designed for a bath.

Its quite common to have a master bedroom shower and additional shower for communal use however, many properties still only boast one shower/toilet.

For resale a bath is a good selling point, English still do love their bath.

Muslims believe that you should wash in flowing water. That's why it is very unlikely to find a bath in a house designed or built for a Turkish family, although some of the more modern families are beginning to make concessions by having Jacuzzi baths.

There's usually an easily accessable toilet and washbasin for visitors
and then larger bathroom with toilet, wash basin and shower for the family
and often an 'en suite' bathroom with shower, wash basin and toilet off the main bedroom.

:-) confusing confusing, for a resal to europeans a bathroom with a bath (full bath) and a seperate restroom (wc/just a toilet and basin) would be great. If you have room for 2 bathrooms; an ensuite full bathroom to the master bedroom would be lovely.

Re: Bathroom terminology on property sales

Our new place in Akbuk (completed in 2 or 3 weeks time) has a main bathroom which actually has a bath and a shower ... However, the 2nd 'bathroom' as it has been advertised, only has a toilet and a washbasin (although there is room to fit a shower if we want to) !!

Maybe thats it, if there is just a toiler and a washbasin, then its called a WC, but if there is room to fit a shower or bath, then its called a bathroom ... maybe.

but your right Karen, the naming of bathroom or WC can be very confusing.

I would humbly suggest that there is probably no standard naming convention to this in Turkish estate agency speak and I'd ask for exact details/clarification if it's of any great concern.

Re: Bathroom terminology on property sales

Thanks all, your comments helped. I'll have to take HIB's advice and always ask though. I think it makes sense now to have both a bath and a w/c if the w/c is same as our 1/2 bath(sink and toilet). En-suite bath is same as our master bath then. For me, I gotta have at least a 1/2 bath on the first floor and full bath by the bedrooms. Now about Turkish showers.......WHERE'S THE CURTAIN/DOOR!!!!!
