Juco,
Yes, I take you point but personally I think that a blitz is what is needed to begin with, to get their attention at least. I also think it would be more than one or two cases. I think that these issues and all related issues need to be right up there in their faces. But, I do understand where you are coming from.

Re: re. Property scams
I agree on a blitz but if you send them in bulk they will look at the first couple and say " aye ok load of S...! for the bin" If they come in individually they do not know the content and will have to keep opening them and it will eventually become a pain for them so they will take notice. Acting on it is another matter.

Re: re. Property scams
does anyone actually know where the law stands on these rip offs, are they treated just like a failed business as in the uk ?
for instance I as an electrical contractor can lay out lets say £25000 in labour ad materials to do a job for a large company.
The large company fails to win the large order therefore cant pay me or other contractors and goes bust
I am now £25000 out of pocket, my only redress is as a creditor, i may get a very small percentage if i am very lucky.
I couldnt go to the police about it they wouldnt be interested, what law have they broken ? They are just unlucky !
would the government change the law I doubt it ! the governments want risk takers, thats how the economy works.
I would imagine thats how most cases would be treated in Turkey, as unlucky failed businesses.
if thats the case I suspect that its lack of business experience that fail these businesses, and thats whats costing people dearly
back to the question, what is the law ? any lawyers out there ?

Re: re. Property scams
Good question about lawyers. How many people here actually used a lawyer and a registered legal agent when buying a property. It would be unthinkable in the U.K to buy a property without the proper checks and a solicitor involved. Unfortunately many people have let themselves be convinced that when they buy a property in Turkey they dont need a lawyer. common sense goes a long way, Scams are not just about people being innocently ripped off you also have to take precautions everywhere - not just in Turkey. Its very easy to find out instantly if your builder is legitimate - simply ask will he be putting the real value of your property on your Tapu (you'll know if he's paying his taxes) and will you be getting a Kat Mulkiyet Tapu - have this stipulated in a contract with a lawyer and thats doing it according to Turkish law. more importantly do more research before you buy and understand the process of buying better. You are protected by Turkish law, just know the law and ask the right questions.

Re: re. Property scams
I think simply asking your builder whats going to be on the TAPU is a bit daft
If hes a conman he can tell you anything and it will be a long time till you get it and the moneys gone by then

Re: re. Property scams
here's someone who's done their research and more importantly spreading the word about it - couldnt be said better by this blogger - Sobesan.com - he's written out the process and precautions you can take. read it and post it to the facebook page - at least this way you're constructive and giving good information to other buyers.
'people are so easy to point fingers when in a lot of cases they left themselves wide open for fraud by blindly trusting people or turning off their natural bullshit detector' - 'Sadly news on these issues in the papers and tv is mostly always based on tragedies and misery as appossed to all the success stories........we hear so little of those!

Re: re. Property scams
whilst there will always be those who are a bit dumb in their dealings
HOWEVER the cases involved in the recent threads and upcomming campaign here on TLF are most definetely not. The victims in these and many other tragedies were scammed-plain and simple-by conmen.

Asking questions is better then being in the dark - plus as i said use a lawyer - he can ask the questions on your behalf - do what you would do when you buy a home in your own country.
