Cadastral Maps

I have picked up from other threads that there is a type of map in Turkey known as a Cadastral Map, which is equivalent to UK Ordnance Survey in detail.

Is this the correct name?
Where are they sold?
What does Cadastral mean?
Is it produced by the Government?

Ian

Re: Cadastral Maps

Cadastral:
Derives from the French cadastre and originally from the Greek Katastikhon and defines the extent, value and ownership of land for taxation purposes.

Cadastral maps aren't available on general sale. You MAY be able to get a copy of part of a cadastral map from a TAPU office or a local builder may allow you to copy one that he has obtained from a "cousin".

They aren't as detailed as Ordnance Survay maps. They basically show the outlines and plot numbers of pockets of land together with the roads and access tracks to them.

I think that because Turkey is a military state, they don't want to allow the information to become available to too many people as there are a number of sensitive buildings hidden in "them thar hills"

Re: Cadastral Maps

Is there a detailed map ( equivalent of OS ) available to the public? If so, what is it called and where can I get it?

Re: Cadastral Maps

At last I have found the source of the detailed maps. It looks like the equivalent of Ordnance Survey for Turkey and although some of the very detailed maps are restricted, they do sell a good range of detailed maps. It is the site of the "GENERAL COMMAND OF MAPPING"
