Bayram-how it affects banks, Bills etc

Nobody has yet mentioned the very long Bayram- holiday that is about to to descend on us in Turkey at the end of Ramadan.
It is worth asking how it affects everyone!

It really starts tonight! Friday 26 th August

AS the three days religious holidaysthis year fall on Tuesday ( 30 August) , Wednesday and Thursday, with the half day ARIFE holiday on Monday 29 August, then the obvious is happening-
Many Turks have booked themselves a ten day holiday! Even before the official announcement by the Council of Ministers to give public servants the other half of Monday off, and Friday off.
Ramadan Holiday officially nine days - Sabah English
Apparently there are 17 extra flights IST to Bodrum put on by THY alone, and more to Dalaman and Antalya and buses , planes are full, full, full.
And Car hires are booked out!

In Tourist areas- business will be as usual, exchange bureaus, restaurants, shops etc, while local business nopt so dependent on tourism may give just the 3.5 days to their workers or as they please.
but
it seems BANKS will shut for the whole week -except Friday 2 September, ( who fills the ATM's- have a bit spare?)
and all administration and legal work will be shut down too.

TOP UP -your PRE_PAID WATER Meters!
The Bodrum Municipality has just announced that for anyone on pre-paid water meters, can make payments up to lunchtime on Monday- obviously when all their offices shut down for the week
This probably applies to most Municipalities in Turkey.
So check today for your supplies!

MARKETS
Milas food and clothes market will move from Tuesday to Monday for this week only.
I asked stallholders in Bodrum Tuesday market is they would be back next week on Tuesday- they said they would be of course-high season!
So in the this area only Tuesday markest are affected.
In other more conservative / less touristy areas weekly markets may be cancelled or moved to Monday or later in the week.

So expect a lot of traffic on the roads and in towns, drive safe,
and enjoy being in Turkey when it is on holidays.

And please at least say - Iyi Bayramlar ( Happy Holidays)to your neighbours, and people you have been helped by/ worked / dealt with this year
and have some sweets ready for the kids if they come and knock on your door.
This is like Christmas/ Easter rolled into one.

Iyi Bayramlar

Banks here are open Monday morning and Friday, it never seems much of a difference here, supermarkets remain open.

Re: Bayram-how it affects banks, Bills etc

Well, i've put my Blue Peter skills to good use again...! The boys and I went shopping this morning and bought goodies for their friends on the site. Just a little toy, crayons, sweets and a bouncy ball.

We're just about to wrap them up in some spare wrapping paper....see photo. Whole contents come to around 4TL per bag....we do it each year and on Tuesday morning the boys knock on their 'friends' doors and hand them out (in return for a few handfulls of sweets)..! They really enjoy choosing the treats and i hope it teaches them that giving is as good as receiving.

Days off?......my husband is a hotel manager and they are so busy next week they have had to cancel 'days off', so not much fun for us. I'm sure i'll come up with something though.

Bayram Mubarek olsun....hope everyone can get involved and enjoy the funx
