the new turkish lira

has anybody had experience yet in the new turkish lira notes ? has it made things any easier, also when using the cash machines in turkey, do we get the new or the old noted out ? and likewise if we order currency over here in the uk to take out with us is it the old or new notes we get ??

The new notes look the same as the old ones, just lot less zeros, I found it easy to use the new ones, the old ones are still around, but not many as they are being phased out.

The cash machines hand out new ones (they did to me anyway)

I think if you order lira here, it will be the new notes.

Steve I think old and new are being used for a year. Not sure what we would get here. We have still got the old notes left form last year to take with us but I remember Starman saying they are still in use.

gone
I still use most of the old notes but the new ones are slipping in slowly though. Still havent seen the 1 kurus or 50 kurus coin but the 100 lira notes are good except the bus driver doesnt like them for some reason.

Got my first 1YTL coin today, with that & the kuruþ my purse weighs a ton[] Paid my dolmuþ para today with 1 x250.000 2 x 50 kuruþ 2x 100.000 plus 2x 100 ku it looks crazy... Be glad when it is all one system I do like the 50 & 100 YTL notes though.. quite a few jokes on Turk TV about the new notes..

We found it hard to get turkish lira here at end of Dec, as they had sent them all back ready for changeover 1st Jan. We managed to get some from GPO, old notes but they are Ok till dec 2005. We got new notes from cash machine in Turkey. Good that they have kept the same colours for each denomination, just a few less zeros so not too confusing. But I got into an argument in Antalya when I thought I had been short changed ... I thought he had given me some 1 kurus, but turned out to be my first few 1 YTL coins [:I] I confused one shop owner by paying in a mixture of old and new (like Lynda's dolmus fare), he said "wow, you know this new money better than we do" !
