So they use an interpreter obviously. It would be an asset if they spoke English.

They use an interpreter if you are lucky []Sometimes you have to make do with hand signals...Also watch out if translator/interpreter is called for you often have to pick up there bill.... I can tell u some tales about that from my years here as a rep.

i dont think english would speak turkish as we dont get alot of
turkish tourists. but turkey relies on tourism .and quite a lot of police are young, and could have learnt english in school.[?]
i dont think that when people are just asking a [?] that there should be sarcasme . we all like to ask qustions . even if they do seem silly to some[:I]

Some policemen speak English. We viewed a house near to police station, went back to have another look round the outside and take some photos. We must have looked suspicious .... a stern voice behind me said sharply "LADY! What you are doing?! why you take photo this house?" I turned round and to my alarm there was a young jandarma, gun on shoulder,,,,, so I explained "er... we are...um... looking at this house, maybe we want to buy it". He said "Lady, you buy this house, it is best house guarded in Akyaka, I will look it for you. Can I help you, come see me".
phew!

I think they have tourist "army" as well don't they? A young friend of ours was going to do his national service and speaks very good English and he said it was a possibility for him (he didn't get there though).

as well as joining the army some choose the jandarm and therefore you may well have a student that speaks very good english or someone who has worked in an english resort as a waiter

jandarma is the army....[] They are the military police that provide the policing outside of the towns. My friend is currently spending his 18mths as jandarma in Anamur so anyone gets down there ( & needs help) he speaks excellent English []
