Presents for Turkish friends

When I visit Turkey I sometimes like to take some presents for friends but it's so difficult to know what to take [?] It's easy with the English expats, as they usually provide a shopping list! Has anyone any suggestions as to what Turkish people - male and female may appreciate .... something they cannot get in Turkey or is cheaper in the UK. Any suggestions will be much appreciated

I am interested in this as well. I have some lovely neighbours who have done something very nice for us. I also want to return with some presents when I go in September, I felt it should be something from England/Britain. Baileys and chocolates isn't a bad start.

I suppose it depends on the family - maybe the woman of the house might like some sort of household thingy and something nice for herself to wear perhaps, and the man something he can use as well and the children some toys.

My only worry is causing offence if the family do not drink alcohol, we met them very briefly as we were returning home the night they arrived at their house and I did not notice. In such a brief meeting they were so lovely and so helpful. I have heard that the alcohol is expensive and I am very happy to take it over and very happy for them to pass it on if they personally do not use it, but will I offend them?

I REALLY DONT KNOW TERESA. MAYBE YOU SHOULD AVOID THE ALCOHOL FOR THIS VISIT UNTIL YOU FIND OUT IF THEY DRINK OR NOT. I ONLY SUGGESTED THE BACARDI AND WHISKEY AS YOU CANT GET THEM IN TURKEY. YOU CAN GET CHEAP TURKISH WHISKEY BUT THERES NO TURKISH EQUIVELANT FOR BACARDI. MAYBE A GIFT FROM YOUR HOME TOWN WOULD BE A NICE GESTURE.

We don't use our duty free allowance so sometimes it is a shame it goes to waste. But I think that is probably best to leave it for now as I don't want to upset them and I do not begin to think I understand the culture enough. Because they are so lovely I doubt they would be upset but who could be offended by jaffa cakes and caramel digestives - absolutely no-one.
