Thank you for your reply. We have some sort of electronic device in the UK with wires that wrap around the pipe. I can't say that works either.
I am definitely not going to be spending the type of money my neighbour has

I never had one in either of our houses in Turkey and also never had to replace any plumbing.

Ah well ,good luck .In my hard water area where I am in UK ,
My neighbour has had to replace his copper Emerson heater cyl ,twice ,since I had a new one fitted 10 years ago .When the fitter tried to lift my old scaled up one out he could not ,and had to phone his mate to come and help him.It was so full of scale .i put 2 of these magnetic ones one the pipe for the new cylinder '& that was 10 years ago ,and still has same element in it.This is a really hard water area. For what they cost me I am convinced.

We don't get any on our shower door glass even if we leave it wet and we are all on same water supply.

Re: Solving hard water problem

We have fitted a water filter to the shower. It's about the size of a coke can and needs a new carbon filter every 6 months. It fits between the tap and the shower hose. It's certainly effective in the shower, hair is better and no chalky spots or dull tiles. The only drawback I have found is the positioning on the mixer tap which can partially block the direct flow from the tap if you want to fill a bucket or bowl, rather than run a shower, but it's not a huge problem and depends on the size of the tap.

Found on Amazon.
