Mobile phones, dongles and all things Internet

I am looking for advice please, having now actually made the move to Turkey last Saturday, hurrah, at long last!
I have been to the Turkcell shop and purchased a dongle, and a small cheap mobile to be able to call the UK
I also have an iPhone and an ipad, do I need to register these anywhere?
I have read loads of stuff about Phones and imei devices and such but find it all rather confusing.
I'm also struggling with the little phone being all Turkish, and haven't managed to activate it yet, I shall probably go back into the shop tomorrow and enquire there.
Also, does anyone know how I keep an eye on the data I am using on the dongle, at home I registered on the 3 website and I could always check how much I had left, but I have looked on the Turkcell website and I can't see a way to do it.
And, last of all ( for now at any rate) can anyone tell me how much data I will use if I watch English tv on Filmon?
Any help would be very much appreciated, as you can see I am a bit of a technofobe!

If you want to put a Turkish SIM in a device, you have to register it. The Turkcell shop can help you with that. Take your passport and resident permit if you have one.

>I'm also struggling with the little phone being all Turkish
A nice Turkish speaker can help you find the language ("Dil") to switch it to English. Maybe you don't need to use that phone if you have your iPhone. If you want to keep your SIM from your home country, it's probably more useful to put your home SIM into the little phone (because it's only for calls) and then put the Turkish sim in your iPhone, so you can use apps and data.

>can anyone tell me how much data I will use if I watch English tv on Filmon?
Lots! Streaming video will eat too tons of data and that can become expensive. You should consider getting a cable internet installed at home for using Filmon.

Also use Skype on your ipad to keep in touch and still retain enough money to eat.

If you are watching British TV through your dongle it will run away with your data.

When you run Vinn (Turkcell dongle) there is a row of icons, the second fro the right is Settings, click on this and choose Dil, then scroll to English.

Also once you are connected to the internet you should have a banner running along the bottom of VINN showing how much data you have left. Tried to print the screen to show you but have been unsuccessful. Maybe someone who has a Vinn dongle but is more savvy than me can print it for you.

On your phone, go into Setting (Ayalar) choose Dil and then English

Re: Mobile phones, dongles and all things Internet

Someone else on the forum said there is a 10ytl charge for 1 hour calls to europe but really viber is the best with the iphone and if you dont have wifi in your place yet get a mifi which can plug into your ipad and provides support for all. There was a link too for getting free notebook/tablet thinghy with new contract on the forum recently the offer open till december. will try and find it or someone else will send it on cos I want to know too!
