PMR446 walkie talkie

Hi,

We have Motorola tlkr t80 walkie talkies to keep in contact with the children - it lets us let them out of sight but maintain some semblance of control/protection.
See http://www.motorolasolutions.com/con..._specsheet.pdf

In the UK and europe generally these are useable license-free. Most of the info I can see about Turkey is some years old suggesting that their use is restricted, but that a review was planned.

A more recent link suggests that their use in Turkey is now ok -
http://kenwoodcommunications.co.uk/f...2016_JT_KB.pdf

For obvious reasons, with security being as it is, I don't want to run into trouble. Can anyone offer any idea as to the legality of these things in Turkey?

Thanks

Tim

Re: PMR446 walkie talkie

Legal or not, you quite rightly point up the security problems in Turkey at the moment; can you imagine the reaction to foreigners walking around tourist areas speaking into walkie talkies? Not a great idea.

If you have Google maps, there is a facility on there to let you see where your friends are. I canīt find the link at the moment, but that at least would let you see where everyone is. And if you are arrested for using the WT your children will be able to find you at the Police Station.

Re: PMR446 walkie talkie

Turkey has always been very security conscious, well it was 20 years back when the wife & I strayed onto the wrong piece of land..............no threat of being shot but we were told in no uncertain terms that we were in a military zone & that we shouldn't be there.

As for keeping an eye on children.............exactly that, don't let them out of your sight.

Until age when, d'you suggest? 10? 12? 15? 18?

The whole point is to move from 'helicopter parenting' on a graduated basis, to allow some freedom with some inevitable risk because they have to learn how to assess risk in order to survive.

As for mobile phones - no that's not what we want to do. Keeping them off mobiles, Iphones, Ipads is desirable.

I'm with you on this one Tim

These new fangled things will never catch on.
Here in Oirland we still reject the fancy ways of horseless carriages , devil power ( electricity) etc.

Two decent Bismet tins and and 12 horses length of bailing twine will suffice

Well that's a parental decision. Our daughter was holidaying with us in Turkey up till the age of 15 & we never let her out of our sight. For me Tim if there was some inevitable risk, then that risk would be curtailed by me as best I could. Of course, risk is viewed differently by us all.
By the way, I don't just aim my comments at Turkey.
Our daughter is now married with two children of her own, she now has to assess the risks for her children.
